OTD in 1974, the F-16 (unintentionally) flew for the first time. During the first high-speed taxi test, a lateral oscillation developed as the jet reached rotation speed. The pilot chose to take off to prevent plowing through the desert and safely landed after a 6-minute flight.

Official U.S. Navy (🇺🇸) photos of the P-8A Poseidon in the waters just off the runway at MCAS Kaneohe Bay. On November 20, a P-8 overshot the runway and ended up in the water. All nine crewmembers safely made it to shore. The photos also confirm the registration: 169561.

Two Missile Defense Agency jets appear to be returning after orbiting southeast of Florida. Hazard zones indicate that there is (or maybe was?) a missile test planned for today and photos from SLC-46 show what appears to be an LRHW hypersonic missile launcher.

On September 29, a Russian Su-27 released a missile while it was shadowing an RAF (🇬🇧) RC-135 Rivet Joint above the Black Sea. #Russia (🇷🇺) said the incident was a "technical malfunction." The Rivet Joint missions have restarted but are now escorted by fighter jets.
