Should a pupil not have access to a laptop at home, there is an alternative. William drew up step-by-step instructions helping pupils use HWB through a PS4 or and XBOX. Well done!

STAND WITH UKRAINE UPDATE! Swansea Schools total so far raised is £9,150 for the British Red Cross. Not all schools had reported their totals when this number was reported to us, therefore the final amount raised will be in excess of £10,000.

We're extremely saddened to learn of the recent passing of Mr Kenwin Thomas ex Biology teacher/Head of Year at Birchgrove. Kenwin was one of a kind, the best kind. Kenwin will be truly missed by all who knew him and has left many fond memories with us.

Congratulations to all pupils in the Year 11 class of 2019. GCSE results awarded to pupils this August represent the best outcomes ever achieved at Birchgrove Comprehensive.
Yellow ribbons are tied to doors to spread the message that pupils can talk to any member of staff if they feel low. We have trained Exchange Service Counselors who attend school weekly. If pupils need info. about mental health issues for young people Young Minds website is great

has seen lots of lovely food, activities and team building. It also brings fatigue after 2 1/2 days of adrenaline pumping through the veins and the need to pack! A meeting was held and pupils have been given plenty of information on leaving.

Today while most of us were still fast asleep, Mr Owen, our Headteacher along with Mr Tucker and Mr Kelleher our Senior Leaders, successfully completed a 10K run at Worms Head in Rhossili. We'd like to congratulate them all on today's achievement
What better way to start December off with, than listening to these two treasures singing Lilly Allen's - Somewhere Only We Know? Sadie and Twyla even gave Miss Jones and their singing coach goosebumps. Such gorgeous vocals girls. We are so very proud of you both!

FOOD BANK DONATIONS KINDLY RECEIVED FOR OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY.
Miss Davies, Head of Geography kindly organised a food bank donation at school which has proved to be a huge success! Donations have been delivered today to our local Community Centre and will help many families.
Our year 7’s are enjoying spending time in their form classes this morning. They are learning expectations and how to use their planners. They’ve had a year group assembly and will soon be enjoying break :)
Transition Visit 1
Birchgrove Primary Year 6 pupils enjoyed their transition visit and we loved meeting them! They met their Form Tutors and took part in a variety of transition activities. We can’t wait to see you again in September!

PREPARATIONS ARE UNDERWAY FOR RE-OPEN OF BIRCHGROVE.
In readiness for June 29th, work areas have been prepared with social distancing marked out and hand sanitisers available for all. Areas equipped with laptops and an individual feedback area which uses a visualiser.

A massive congratulations to Tya and Sofia for supporting a very good cause today at school, by putting on a fantastic cake stall. A lot of money was raised in aid of the Brain Tumour Charity and we are super proud of you both 👏
You can NOW see just how overwhelmed we were by the support you’ve shown us here at Birchgrove to help highlight EDL! We have had SOOO much cake we couldn’t put it all out! We will refrigerate them and hold another sale tomorrow at lunchtime for charity.
Evening activities completed ✅ pupils are now having some downtime before bed where they will be switching their phones off and giving them to their heads of year so they hopefully get up rested and ready for a full day of activities tomorrow :)

A FABULOUS FIRST DAY FOR THE WHOLE SCHOOL.
The first day back is going very well. Pupils in all year groups are enjoying being back at school and are abiding by government guidelines. Year 7 pupils are settling in very well and making new friends.
Bonell joined us in 1997 & went on to become our Head of PE.Famous Alumni include current Welsh rugby international Adam Beard, who massively credits Mr Bonell for all the additional time spent training during school lunchtimes & after school! see comments

Massive congratulations to Katie in Year 7 who swims with the Celtic Dolphins. Katie competed in a competition which was held in Llanelli and won first place (GOLD) in the 50 metre front crawl and 3rd place (BRONZE) in the 50 metre butterfly 👏😃
ANOTHER FANTASTIC WIN FOR WALES AGAINST FIJI 🏴👏🏉Today at school we watched our wonderful nation play in the World Cup together for the second time. All staff and pupils sang our National Anthem as the game commenced. What a stunning atmosphere at Birchgrove!!!!

Mr Bellamy thought that it would be a fantastic idea to tie in today's lesson with tonight's events. He not only wowed his audience, but explained how dangerous fireworks can be. Our Year 7 & Year 8 pupils thoroughly enjoyed their lesson.
The busses retuning from the activity weekend are expecting to return within the hour. Pupils will call/text home when we are about 20 minutes away. Lots of tired but happy children, sorry parents/carers but lots of dirty washing!

Our Year 8 pupils presented £1,000 to Wales Air Ambulance. Pupils worked with First Give to create presentations and were judged overall winners on our finals night. The winning group will be making a visit to see the Welsh Air Ambulance service very soon. Watch this space...
Massive well done Hollie, Harrison & family for raising a staggering £1700 for Ty Olwen. The children have been raising funds in memory of their father and in recognition of the support Ty Olwen afforded the family. What an amazing achievement! We’re all incredibly proud of you.

Young Persons Advisory Panel 2019
A massive congratulations to Ryan Williams in Year 8 who has been selected as a member of the young persons advisory panel for the Children's Commission of Wales. We are very proud and know he will make an amazing member of the panel.
Year 9 Business Construction Competition.
30 Year 9 pupils took part in a Competition today run in partnership with Careers Wales & CITB. The aim of the challenge was to design, produce & present a low carbon home to the judges, made mainly out of recycled products.
Year 7 fun day 🤩inter form/class rounders was won by Mr. Steel's form and the winners of the relay team competitions was the white team, winning by 1 point over the blues 🙂Lots of fun and laughter was had by all pupils (and staff)! A great way to end the term 🥇🏆
