Pushing themselves and always striving to win.
Hard training starts now. The new Browning platoon starts their build up for P Company. 10 weeks time and they'll be on the start line fighting for their future

British Paratrooper recruits finish off their last bit of fitness prep before they undertake their P Company test. This is where they complete a week of arduous physical tests to earn the right to join the Parachute Regiment.
12 years ago today the men of B Company 2 Para were doing this for real. It's at that moment you realise your suffering is nothing to the suffering of failing this task.
Well done to the recruits today who passed this event and then have passed P Company

Building Paratroopers takes a lot of work from the individual and the harsh reality is that even when they do all this they aren't guaranteed to pass their final fitness test.

2 weeks out from test week and the recruits exceeded the 10 miler standard today by 90 seconds to add some progressive overload.
51 recruits from Rhine, Tamera and Browning with 6 rested who have previously passed so hopefully 57 put forward for P Company in a strong position

Running is a great adjunct to improve athletic ability.
Long slow runs, track sessions, tempo runs.
Implemented at the right time for a specific purpose will help to improve a soldier's capacity to move over ground with speed and increase their ability on the battlefield.
Keep working towards your goals. Stay focussed, stay committed and stay disciplined.
Success is just around the corner with a bit of hard work.

1) Bad training is bad training and unfortunately everyone is addicted to the burn. A good indicator to reduce MSKIs is to make people stronger but also if you understand simple S&C principles such as SAID, progressive overload, general adaptation etc.
Parachute Regiment recruits training for their final test week.
Little bit of a surprise session, with lots of hill reps and speed play to test physical and mental robustness.

4) The recruits I train are apparently the worst of the worst for fitness, or are returning from injury so highly susceptible to injury according to literature. They will run and tab/ruck more than 90% of recruits covering 20-30 miles a week, but we have a very low injury rate.
@EternalJNCO
@troop_ultra
@RyanNoordally
@Nails_ZeroAlpha
3) Tabbing, running, rowing etc and build endurance first. Build really basic strength movements in, the term functional fitness is a misnomer as all movements are functional, bicep curls are highly functional it's just how you apply it to training.
@keellelectrical
I've already bought in HR monitors, measuring all their Zones, weight lifted in the gym etc.
Don't need to take blood lactate to make things elite, more about the understanding of endurance training principles, athlete testing and recording and usage of data collected.
@EternalJNCO
@troop_ultra
@RyanNoordally
@Nails_ZeroAlpha
2) Running and tabbing/rucking is essential for British Paras and understanding how to attack that is by keeping everything really basic, strengthening the body to cope with the applied stress and applying a stress that the body can adapt to. I slow everything down.
@EternalJNCO
@troop_ultra
@RyanNoordally
@Nails_ZeroAlpha
5) Poor training is poor training, most need to remember the people turning up to basic training have a training age of 0 and don't need highly complex movements to get through. Basic squats, hinge, lunge, push, pull will do and you'd be surprised how effective that is
You lost too bad, 3 tests to go, hopefully Australia can clean sweep you. 5-0, then I can go around with a jar and collect English tears for my collection.

P Company tests the recruits, they set the test conditions which need to be valid, reliable and repeatable, which they are.
The pass rates comes down to the training pre P Company and the individuals want and desire to pass the standard.
P Company has no fault in a poor pass rate

I wonder if you cross trained but added in a run specific strength program if the deficit would be smaller.
This is good for when you are on rehab or if you are trying to improve VO2 and/or aerobic system, you could add this to your running program.
@johnboogle
On another note physical exercise has been researched and shown to improve mental health as an adjunct to therapy. There is good research for this on PTSD as well. All the lessons we teach theory and practical, we are certainly giving these young men the right tools for adversity
@johnboogle
This has absolutely nothing to do with physical fitness, but we are using physical events to grow their ability to fight that internal dialogue. It is also specific to them building for P Company and overcoming the mental struggle of wanting to quit when it gets hard.
@NRLonNine
Fittler has completely lost the plot this series, his use of bench has been woeful, selections average. It's like he hasn't researched replacements for injured players and just picks a name out of a hat

why don't you start putting in mitigating factors like they do in Rugby. You are making a mockery of the sport, slipping into tackles and getting sent off

cadence running, find out what your cadence is, if its not around 170-180spm then get a metronome app. Set it to 5% more than your current cadence and increase each run until you hit the 170 mark

Ha! loads of cash in PNG to grow the game. I think the idea is to get some involvement from the Americans since they have 330 million people. That also have cash to spend.
