Exactly 7 years ago. The day I said a big Fuck you to NEPA. Lol It was a very modest system. 480w solar panels with 5kwh battery. The system as grown organically from an average daily electricity generation of 1.2kwh to the current average daily of 27kwh. A milestone Thread.

One car Nigerians should definitely fuck with is the Hyundai Elantra 2006-2010. It is a solid "Corolla" alternative. Fuel efficiency is up to 30+MPG ie you can do close to 700km on a 55L tank. Engine of that car is solid. The car itself has a clean simple design

First major upgrade to the system was in 2018. Panels grew to 1.8kw, got a bigger inverter from 850VA to 3kva. Good thing about solar is the second hand market is more lucrative than Toyota Corolla. When am ready to upgrade I sell what I had to partly fund the upgrade.

Throwing this up again. This knife type "change over" switches needs to die. Get an ATS. Heck it can be configured to automatically switch power source or even start a Gen. It's cheaper too.

I think about ten years ago 2 persons of Nigerians origin beheaded an UK soldier close to his barrack. They were arrested prosecuted and jailed. The incident happened close to a Nigerian community in the UK. No one went on rampage. No collective punishment. A civilized society.

I sometimes struggle to understand how people instantaneously consume 3 to 4kw of electricity. I am currently pulling 1.25kw from my batteries.. that's running 2 x 65 inch TVs, a 220L fridge, water dispenser, a 1.5HP AC, couple of ceiling fans, a home lab and lots of lights.

Currently drawing 874w of electricity: This includes a 1.5HP AC set to 16C, a 220L fridge, 8 outdoor lights, an always on home computer lab with 8 computers (4 x86x servers and 5 raspberry Pi) 2 network switches, 1 Starlink, & 2 x 750va APC UPS. That's about ₦183/hour on Band A

Lithium batteries. The best Lithium based battery for home use are Lithium ion Phosphate aka LifePo4. They are very stable and safe. Although the have lesser energy density compared to Lithium Ion Polymer, they are very very safe.

This Harmattan has been pretty hard on my off-grid solar.. I completely under estimated how bad the problem was until system went offline because I ran out of battery. I was not generating enough electricity to keep up usage. I had panels cleaned generation jumped almost 40%

Let me get this. Govt said it would not list ban on rice to curb food inflation. Same govt now offer confiscated illegally smuggled rice to people for less than 20% market value. Isn't it more efficient to just allow rice import and just crash the high cost of rice?

7 confirmed dead. These 7 were amongst the many who went to get a bag of rice at the customs office. They lost their lives due to hunger. RIP to the deceased and condolences to the family. It's truly a tragic scenario that shouldn't have happened

This is a decent Starlink alternative for those who require good home Internet but can't afford Starlink. It takes 2 LTE SIM. Because it is Outdoor, it ideal for cities and country side. Can connect to a cell tower 10km away.. You can even lock it to a particular cell tower.

Found time to install this device yesterday. Used a 7ft pole attached to the roof facial board using an improvised satellite dish mounter. Had the pole mounted to an earth terminal bus bar. Speed test between the Outdoor LTE Router & my current CAT6 indoor LTE router.

Another major cause of this is the Poultry and CAT fish industry. The amount of anti biotics used to keep the animals healthy is insane. These antibiotics make it into humans when consumed and becomes a major source of antibiotics resistance.

Putting this out again if you are DIY or having panels installed for you. Please as much as possible, do not allow your solar panels to be placed directly on the roof of your house. The heat from the roof would drastically reduce output and eventually kill your panels.

I always make sure to mount my solar panels such that they are raised from the roof. This help reduce heat transfer from the roof which helps with overall efficiency. A solar panel can lose as much as 30% of potential energy due to heat mostly from the roof.

2018 was when I incorporated energy monitoring to the system. I built a solar energy Monitoring system based on Raspberry. It sends logs to a cloud server & uses a self healing 3G modem for internet. It can also cache logs offline & upload when online.

Light. The sun being close to the equator cast shadows on the face. The intensity of the sun also case hard on light which creates hard shadows.. vs difused saturated light. Then there is humidity which makes face oily and sweaty. Even Nigeria climate is difficulty mode.

Tomorrow I would be visiting a friends farm to see his bio gas powered electricity generator. The system powers his farm and 2 surrounding villages. He charges the villagers N100 per kWh (more than 4 times official rates) and the villagers gladly pay.

Between 11:00-13:00 is the solar happy hour in Nigeria. That is when you panel go on full blast. I am currently generating enough electricity to power a vacuum cleaner, 7.5kg washing machine, a fridge, freezer, laptops & others and still charge the battery with over 60A (@ 48v)

@Mochievous The answer to this is pretty obvious. Market. Our market doesn't not reward excellent work. Going from good to excellent requires precision tooling which many artisan don't have / can't be bothered to get. Why should they when they would get client either way.
