Reminder that a bunch of classic lit was written for casual consumption in their time. Digging deeper isn't necessary for enjoyment. I agree with the sentiment that historical works deserve respect but the act of reading (and enjoying) the work is already honouring the author

One thing I noticed while rereading the catcher in the rye was how holden never names his emotions. He never uses words like "scared", "happy", "sad". Instead, the entire book is just him stating what his body is doing in a badly done case of "show not tell" BUT I LIKE IT
