Seriously. Not a single American should bother staying up to watch Australia this weekend.
It’s clear F1 doesn’t want Andretti. It’s clear Williams doesn’t fully support Logan. It’s clear who’s going to win for the 20th time in 21 races.
It’s clear they’re not worth our time.
Mark Martin never won it. But Derrike Cope has.
Tony Stewart never won it. But Michael Waltrip has.
Martin Truex Jr. has never won it. But Trevor Bayne has.
Brad Keselowski has never won it. But Michael McDowell has.
Kyle Busch has never won it. But Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has.
Whether you agree or disagree with
@kylepetty
, you have to appreciate his consistency. Never afraid to say what he feels and tell it like it is.
On Carl Edwards in 2010, Matt Kenseth in 2015, and Bubba Wallace in 2022:
It is unbelievable how quickly my enthusiasm has shifted.
Three years ago I was beyond disillusioned with NASCAR and head over heels in love with F1.
Now I’m so pissed off that I’m almost rooting for F1 to fail and haven’t been this invested in NASCAR since I was a kid.
🗣️ "The hardest moment in my career."
Logan Sargeant reacts to being forced to miss the remainder of the

weekend, but reiterates he will "continue to contribute in any way" he can to the Williams team.
The year is 2038. Scarlett Keselowski is preparing to make her Cup Series debut while teammate Chris Buescher kicks off his farewell/retirement tour.
Roush Fenway LeBron Keselowski Racing teases the return of the Stage 60 car.
“You know who it might be? Carl Edwards.”
Broke: NASCAR should give Kyle Larson a playoff waiver.
Joke: NASCAR should NOT give Kyle Larson a playoff waiver.
Woke: Playoff waivers shouldn’t exist to begin with because we never should have abandoned using a full-season points system to determine our champions.
Are people actually going to throw away 20 years of loyalty to Jimmie Johnson because his team is switching to Toyota? I’ve never understood dying on the manufacturer hill like this.
Dale Jr just said on
#AskJr
that Kaulig reportedly paid $10 million *each* for their charters and that JR Motorsports won't be in the market for a charter if they're that expensive.
Man...good for existing owners I guess but I still don't see how that's "good for the sport"...
I’m the last person who will ever buy into a conspiracy theory…but the most plausible one I’ve heard to date is that Carl Edwards retired (at least partly) due to the advent of stage racing.
Carl was, and remains, correct.
June 30, 2012: Bruton Smith suggested that NASCAR have scheduled caution flags during races to break up green flag runs.
At first, opinion was not in favor:
One more note on Greg Van Alst: according to this
@Frontstretch
interview, it cost him more money to run Daytona than he earned back through the race purse.
He won the race.
Let that sink in.
Here's a stat that doesn't get nearly enough appreciation: Matt Crafton's consecutive starts streak of 521 races in the Truck Series, which dates back to October 28, 2000.
For reference, his newest ThorSport teammate, Hailie Deegan, was born July 18, 2001...
In 2011, between his Indy 500 win and untimely death at Las Vegas, Dan Wheldon made a handful of television appearances as an analyst for Versus, working alongside Bob Jenkins and Robin Miller. Hard to believe that only ten years have passed and all three are no longer with us...
10 years ago yesterday, Danica Patrick finished 8th in the Daytona 500.
10 years ago today, Skip Bayless went on First Take and argued the seven drivers who finished ahead of her should have stepped up and tried to help her win.
I’m honesty surprised more people haven’t brought this up.
As Van Alst was clearly (and justifiably) upset by this, on top of what’s happened in his personal life, the FS1 booth literally *laughed* at him in a completely inappropriate and nonsensical time to be cracking jokes.
After his primary got destroyed in the last race by a guy in a JGR car having a bad day, he exasperatedly admitted he might be done driving for a while. TV announcers sort of scoffed at that notion and played it off as a little speed bump in his season.
You know, NASCAR fixed up North Wilkesboro to host their All-Star Race.
Since IndyCar’s adding an All-Star Race…anyone else see where I’m going with this?
I don't know what's worse: the fact that he plagiarized *again*, the fact that it's now become evident he's been doing this for years with no remorse, or the fact that there are actually people in the replies to this tweet *defending* the act of plagiarism.
Goodness, man...
So, to put a bow on it:
Bubba Wallace hooked Kyle Larson in the right rear on a straightaway, driving the car that forced his teammate into early retirement, at the same track that killed Dan Wheldon 11 years to the day of his death.
Let’s just say I’m not a fan of that at all.
Here's the great thing about NASCAR. It used to be that you could bring a car down to Daytona, race your way into the 500, and build your team from the ground up from there.
Maybe the problem isn't the charter system by itself, it's that it completely shuts out Open teams.
This is “blowing up,” as the kids say.
Look, if you want to keep watching, that’s your choice. Of course F1 is bigger than one driver. I just continue to be amazed at how desperate this sport is for American $$$ while continually finding new ways to screw over American drivers…
Also, for NASCAR fans seeing this, I’ve been watching NASCAR since the end of 2006.
I should be clear that I have plenty of issues with how they’re being run today as well. But it’s undeniably more fun to be a NASCAR fan right now than an F1 fan. No argument there.
Hate on KG for this tweet all you want, but two things can be true at the same time.
1) We just saw one of the greatest, most exciting, most thrilling finishes in the history of this sport.
2) We should NOT even *consider* reconfiguring every 1.5 track after this model.
The fact that MULTIPLE people in the replies are saying
@DLand91
is the only reason they DID know the championship race was today is proof that a) YouTubers can be good for the sport and b) IndyCar needs to really, really prioritize their marketing in the coming years...
Hot take: say what you will about how inconsiderate and dumb it is, Cole Whitt and his team had every right to do this, and the fact that it changed the whole championship outcome is further proof of the fact that the system we have now is not a good way to determine a champion.
In conclusion, I've got more questions than answers now. I'm still not a fan of the charter system and I don't see how very many new teams will be able to afford to enter the Cup Series. Can't run Open cause it pays virtually nothing, can't buy charters if they're that expensive.
…as well as aspiring teams, and, most importantly, fans.
Replacing the driver who didn’t crash this weekend with the driver who did may be a good “business decision” in one sense. But is it also a *bad* business decision for reasons such as this tweet right here?
This is the type of response I’d expect. There are people in the Facebook comments that are acting as if Jimmie just committed murder and I just don’t think it can possibly be that deep…
My favorite manufacture has and probably always will be chevy.
But im still gonna root for Jimmie, he's still gonna be my favorite all-time driver regardless.
Letting stuff like this through the cracks to the point where it actually makes the final cut is a clear indication that there are people in the production team who simply do not care.
@cpk_diecast
@Frontstretch
That only further illustrates the point though. If not even the winner can avoid losing money in the biggest race of the year, how can anyone else? Unless they’ve got a *massive* sponsorship check…
I have no idea how Kaulig pulled that off. JR Motorsports has been around longer, has multiple Xfinity championships and arguably has much more name/brand recognition with their personnel and sponsors. They can't afford a charter but Kaulig can afford two? At that price?
@JMattWeaver
This legitimately makes me angry. For someone who made bots such a massive issue before deciding whether or not to buy Twitter, Elon certainly hasn’t done much to prevent the problem from getting more out of hand than it’s ever been.
Again, I’m so sorry for your loss, Matt…
We need better TV coverage that can have fun when it’s appropriate but makes sure to take this sport and the people working in it seriously. This isn’t just a Fox problem either, NBC can be just as guilty at times.
It’s been a problem for years, and it seems to be getting worse.
In addition to his status as the "Iron Man" of the Truck Series, Crafton has 15 wins, 16 poles, 132 top-fives, 312 top-tens, and 3 championships. He's finished in the top-ten in points every season for the last 16 years in a row.
If you ask me, this is a Hall of Fame résumé.
Qualifying needs to come back full time. And when it does, it needs to be something that is *postponed* due to weather, not canceled.
I feel so sorry for the Xfinity teams that missed the show at Daytona. And I also feel so sorry for the truck teams that missed the show tonight.
@rajahcaruth_
@NASCAR
@COTA
I plan to! Thrilled for the success you’re having this year my man. Vegas was a great night and I’m sure even better for you!
Watching Jeopardy! tonight and there’s a clue in a Budweiser-themed category that asked to identify this driver.
Contestant’s response: “Who is Richard Petty?”
Yeah sorry but I'm not liking this.
I get Mike wants to defend his employer, but the so-called keyboard warriors' criticisms have nothing to do with him, but rather the business model. And they're undoubtedly valid, especially with a new TV deal right around the corner.
Call me crazy, but I'm not so sure it's a great look for NASCAR's *Senior Vice President of Competition* to openly call the sport's most popular driver "hopefully" a championship contender four days before regular season finale...
After rewatching it, “chuckled” is perhaps a more appropriate word than “laughed.”
But the point still stands. No matter the intention, the reaction came off as tone deaf.
