Contrary to popular opinion, it was actually the British who rescued the Fulanis from the Yorubas in Ilorin and restored Fulani rule. Throughout much of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Fulanis and their Emir were slaves to Yoruba Baloguns. “Emir” was mostly Ceremonial.

A people reduced to nothing by their immediate neighbors should never worry about Ilorin, Ijaw Creek men rendered y'all tree-hopping monkvys landlocked by taking bonny, these same Creek men are expanding towards Abia state, but no “let us worry about Ilorin” .pic 1 (Baike,1856)🧵

Fun fact! Between 1947-1951, Ovu Ejo women's union rocked Yoruba cloth & head-ties, feeling more "civilized" than other Afikpo women. Gele isn't Igbo, Igbo women originally wore handkerchiefs before Yoruba women introduced them to the elegance of Gele!

It's ironic how a “Saro”, whose ancestors in the 19th century were devoted to their kith and kin in the hinterland, now portrays himself as an “Indigene” of Lagos Island. Your ancestors did not identify with the indigenous people(Awori ), and neither were they “Lagosians”.
