In 1888, the Yoruba asserted their sovereignty by signing a treaty with Britain. Today, for the first time since then, we asserted our sovereignty by making it clear to the world that Yorubaland is for the Yoruba and not for any one else. We are not Nigerians. We are Yoruba.

Do Igboho’s lawyers know about The African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act Chapter A9 of 1983? That act makes self-determination legal in Nigeria. Agitation (protest, argument) by anyone for self-determination is not illegal.

Military action anywhere in Southern Nigeria has no legitimacy since no battlefield declared anywhere. #US supplies Nigeria with battlefield weapons only. In tort, anyone in Southern Nigeria injured by #US battlefield weapons is entitled to compensation from makers and suppliers.

The Yoruba National Anthem ends with ‘Ogo adu lawo’ – Glory to the dark skin. Celebrating the dark skin makes Yorubaland homeland to all Yoruba descendants wherever they may be including the descendants of the transatlantic slavery now domiciled in the Americas and the Caribbean.

Nigeria is a legal entity; defined by two legal instruments: Proclamation of Amalgamation on 1 Jan 1914 by Lord Lugard and Promulgation of Constitution on 5 May 1999 by General Abdulsalami. If one or both is fraudulent, then Nigeria does not have a legal existence as a country.

The case to annul the 1914 Amalgamation of Nigeria is winnable. But this is a big constitutional case. Indeed, it is potentially a landmark case. It requires a lot of research. I am even considering enlisting the assistance of an academic department of law. So please be patient!
