"If youโre reading this, then youโre a theatre maker, a theatre goer, a theatre lover, or some combination of the three. Let me ask you this โ when you think about the future of American theatre, are you sure that there will be room for you there?"
Co-taught a class of musicians and theatre makers today. Told them they were getting a 15-minute break and there was a brief pause, so I said, โTheatre makers, what do you say?โ A chorus of, โThank you, 15.โ
My musician co-teacher said, โWow! Why donโt musicians do that?โ
Tonight I did something Iโve never done before. Sitting in the theatre I heard the person behind me begin to sob as quietly as they could during the show. When the show was over I asked how they were doing, saw they were not okay, and asked if they wanted a hug.
Wait wait you want to publish work from underrepresented playwrights, but instead of paying them you want royalties to go to charity?! Am I hearing that right?
I've come a long way from being shut out of my high school's theatre program to teaching theatre at three institutions of higher learning. Don't count me out.
A new indication of how difficult it has become to sustain a Broadway show during the Omicron surge: โMrs. Doubtfireโ will close for nine weeks, laying off all employees, in the hopes that a short-term hiatus will make possible a long-term run.
Though we did not know each other we stood in the lobby and hugged for a long time as they cried. A nearby usher looked on. After a while we let go of one another and introduced ourselves. We thanked one another and I walked away.
Theatre.
My brother, who is currently incarcerated, wrote me and told me he watched the Tonys. He asked me about the winning shows, including A Strange Loop. I sent him the script. Canโt wait to see what he thinks of it.
Thank you, everybody! I have paid out of pocket for at least half the respirators I've distributed. If you want to help by donating, that would be much appreciated...because this economy is not it! Cashapp: $azuredeezure Venmo: @/azure-osborne-lee

Also! I just got my city disability โฟ๏ธ parking permit. Getting around just got easier (and more affordable) for me. Hooray!
For reasons that I don't think I'm supposed to publicly announce, I will be seeing a lot of Off-Broadway shows this year. If you're interested in potentially being my +1 sometime, let me know!
It's Trans Day of Visibility! And Easter!
What would Jesus do? Definitely support trans people.
Wear a mask! Tithe to the trans community!

Book of Trans Plays has a publication date and is now available for pre-order. You should absolutely get yourself (and your institution) a copy!
Oh my gosh, yโall! This post was just a silly quick snap I took while walking up to the theatre. Hereโs me waiting for somebody to come let me in the accessible entrance. I used a nasal spray before putting on my mask and air purifier necklace today.
Black (presumably) queer student at a PWI stayed after class to express her excitement at having a Black queer professor for the first time. Very endearing.

I feel this way about people seeing plays as well. Please just sit down and experience the work. I assure you you will be reunited after the show.
Waiting for the house to open for a mask required performance, doing my best to isolate from all the people waiting until we go in the theatre to actually put their masks on. Transmission starts when you enter the building, not when the curtain rises.

LOL I studied abroad in Argentina in 2005 and I was stared at, honked at by motorists and bus drivers. Random men stopped their cars and told me to get in. A news crew ran up on me in the street. Nobody could understand why I spoke Spanish. But okay.
Teaching "For Colored Girls..." to a predominantly white class is a wild experience, but it's very gratifying to see my students of color, particularly the Black women, living for it.

I applied to grad school in London because I was left alone in my NYC apt on NYE. I am from Texas and had never been to Europe before moving to London to attend school.
Gathered a handful of energy & brain cells and submitted 2 playwright apps, got unemployment on the phone, suggested some things to some people, and went to the post office and FedEx. The cat and I are now recuperating in the air conditioned darkness of my bedroom.
Saw some people, including a queer artist I know, gathered on the steps of city hall, so I walked over and asked them if they needed masks. Not everybody did, but ended up giving away a box of 35 N95s.
Just got my email notifying me it didn't advance further, so I am happy to share that "Red Rainbow" was a semifinalist for the National Playwrights Conference this year! Go weird queer epics! ๐ฉธ๐
