We are so proud of our journalists who — after months of ongoing COVID coverage and the strain on many of monthly furloughs — have been tireless in their coverage of protests in Phoenix this week. You can read some of that coverage here:

What started as a peaceful vigil ended with the smashed windows of numerous downtown buildings and vandalized police cars hours later.

After over three years of bargaining and repeated unfair labor practices, it's also become apparent that asking nicely isn't going to get us fair wages, benefits and protections for our newsroom, and that Gannett has no intention to bargain over these issues in good faith.

Gannett’s severance packages aren’t as generous as they used to be. But by comparison, Gatehouse offers even less. Layoff protections are just one of the things we can bargain for together.

We negotiated an agreement that secures just cause + grievance clauses in our first contract to protect jobs, locks in 5 days of PTO rollover and allows members to volunteer for producer furloughs, so those who can least afford them are protected and a department isn't targeted.
