It’s 2024 and the countdown has officially begun: HBCU Made comes out Jan. 30th! And I’m going on tour! I’m excited and nervous 😱 Come out and see me and buy my book!
Underrated moment: the exchange between
@ayesharascoe
and
@AprilDRyan
and
@PressSec
over Trump’s view on due process and even his infamous comments on the Central Park 5
Some personal news!!! Ahhhh!! I would like to play it cool, but I cannot. I am so so so honored to take on this position. Growing up I never thought I could host a national news magazine, but God is so good.
NPR WH correspondent
@ayesharascoe
will be the new host of
@NPRWeekend
Sunday:
"At NPR, I've found my voice and worked with amazing colleagues. I've also been privileged to get to know the dedicated listeners who make up the heart of public radio."
I’m grinning ear to ear this morning bc today is the big day. My first show as the host of
@NPRWeekend
Sunday!! We’ve got a great show in the works, tune in to your NPR member station OR catch us later on the NPR One or NPR apps.
My question to Mick Mulvaney today at the presser about whether it's ok to ask a foreign govt to open investigation to further president's political interests.
WATCH: NPR's
@ayesharascoe
questions acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney on President Trump asking a foreign leader to investigate his political opponents. (Video via the White House)

Aboard AF1, a reporter asked WH press secretary Jen Psaki for evidence to back up the claim that Qurayshi denotated a suicide bomb.
Psaki asked whether skeptics think the U.S. military is "not providing accurate information and ISIS is providing accurate information." 2/x
Today’s the day! I’m in the host chair for Weekend Edition. Tune into your local member station. We have a great show for you coming up! We talk about the omicron variant and how rich countries can actually help poorer countries get vaccinated.
I’m back in the host chair for Weekend Edition Sunday! Tune in soon for news about how parents and schools are coping with omicron. Also, we talk about the impact of the pandemic on Black funeral homes and I interviewed YellowJackets star Melanie Lynskey.
I went roller skating for the first time since I was a kid last night. Skates have gotten much more slippery than I remember. Anyway, I’m hosting All Things Considered for the first time today. Here’s hoping that goes better than the skating.
"Is the president aware that this is about police-involved shootings, and not about disrespecting the flag?" April Ryan asks in contentious exchange.
"The president has made his position crystal clear on this topic," Press Sec. Sanders replies. "He not going to waver on that."
Today is my one year anniversary of joining NPR, and what a year it has been! So honored to be part of this amazing team and really grateful for the NPR listeners, who have been so kind to this radio newbie!
As Trump goes after Ilhan Omar, it’s worth noting that last year Trump referred to George W. Bush’s response in aftermath of 9/11 as the “tiny period of time with a bullhorn”
When your first kid cries at drop off, it just eats at your soul. When you’re dropping off your third child and they cry, you think “well, she’s your problem now, good luck with that!”
I took a deep dive into Trump’s tweets about every single member of Congress and found that attacks against lawmakers are intensifying and getting more personal, especially against lawmakers who are not white.
I could hear a baby crying in the background while
@ayesharascoe
debriefed with
@NPRKelly
on
@npratc
. And that was just a really visceral reminder of how hard parents -- especially mothers -- are working right now.
First time making it in a White House briefing during Biden administration. I think I remember how to do this! (
@EugeneDaniels2
is also in the mix today)
This is the smile of a woman who is now officially on vacation! I will not be on Weekend Edition for the next two Sundays. But, don’t fret,
@ElissaNadworny
and
@shannonpareil
will fill in for me. I will be back in July.
I was on Meet the Press today! Let me tell you why that meant the world to me. I grew up spending summers with my grandparents and on Sundays, my grandpa would watch the McLaughlin Group and then he would watch Meet the Press
WATCH: “It’s been 100 years but there still has not really been justice,” says
@ayesharascoe
of the Tulsa massacre.
“I will point out on Memorial Day that you’ve had Black people fighting for this country from the beginning."
Sitting here with Whitney and Teddy, getting ready to fill-in host for
@NPRWeekend
this Sunday!! Yay!! I’m so excited. Please tune in! I will be co-hosting Upfirst tomorrow and then in host chair Sunday.
Words are my thing, but I’m having a hard time finding the words right now. But, I come from a long line of hard working women. My mom and my aunts and my grandmothers, who’ve both passed on now. When you hear me, you hear them.
I’m going to say this every week, but we have a really good
@NPRWeekend
show today, if I do say so myself. We talk about latest from Ukraine and gas prices. And I talked to two legends this week:
@tonyhawk
and
@SamuelLJackson
!!!
Big news everyone! My book, HBCU Made, is coming out Jan. 30th, 2024. It’s a collection of essays from HBCU grads, including myself. I just got the advance copies!!!!!
38 hours later: found out Thursday that I would be leaving for Iraq Friday. Could only tell my husband, couldn’t tell my older kids. (Told my 2 yr old, but she can’t talk, I don’t think SS will get me) What a job!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and mother figures out there. You know what would make the mothers in your life happy: listening to
@NPRWeekend
Sunday! At least it makes my mom happy.
It goes without saying that Yamiche’s reporting is impeccable. Attacking a successful Black woman to provide cover for your raggedy brand is despicable.
I know I’m doing something right when
@TuckerCarlson
is threatened by my reporting and making baseless claims about bad grammar.
As the great Beyoncé said, “Boy bye.”
Let me be transparent and say I’ve had a rough week, so reading this profile of me with so many kind words from my peers and people I respect means a lot. Thanks so much to
@arianapekary
and
@currentpubmedia
Warning people about a potential disaster is not inciting panic. By this logic, forecasters should not warn people about hurricanes and tornadoes because people might get upset.
There was only a small TV room with 2 recliners. He’d be in one and I’d be in the other. My grandpa is 94, grew up in NC working from sun up to sun down on a farm. He is a veteran. He taught himself to read. Now his granddaughter is on Meet the Press!
Hair is now laid and I will soon be off to
#nabj
conference in Vegas, so you won’t hear me on
@NPRWeekend
this Sunday. You will be in the very capable hands of my longtime colleague
@alinaselyukh
!!
Today on
@NPRWeekend
we have a story that is deeply personal to me. For our series on the Civil Rights Generation, we talk to my mom and my uncle Anthony about their experience living through a significant civil rights event in their hometown.
💇🏿♀️ NEW EPISODE 💇🏿♀️
Guest host
@ayesharascoe
visits The Black Hair Experience, an exhibit that allows her to reflect on her own relationship with her hair.
Plus,
@DaviSusan
and
@asmamk
on Biden's biggest economic priorities.

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! You will not hear me tomorrow on
@NPRWeekend
bc I will be w the hubby and these Trice kids wearing matching pajamas and supervising Santa’s output. Grateful to
@DanielEstrin
who will be in the host chair! Happy holidays y’all!
The thing about the CRT “outrage,” is it allows lawmakers to complain about the treatment of white people without explicitly saying it. Saying white people are treated unfairly in America looks a little strange in the light, much easier to talk CRT.
The same way the media has called presidential elections in the past, including in 2016. The media is calling the election based on official vote counts from states.
I was blessed to be able to take time off after each of mine, but the truth is I wasn’t ok. It’s different for every woman, but it’s so important this becomes apart of public policy discussions.
So many women have miscarriages and Nobody at work knows. They go to work the next day, no time off. Schedule a D&C as if it’s a routine doc appointment.
This is groundbreaking.
This hits hard. Betty White is the last of the Golden Girls, my favorite show ever. I watched reruns every day from my tweens until now. Rose, Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia were my friends when I had none.
I will miss the Washington Desk at NPR and the whole NPR White House team, but can’t wait to join Weekend Edition Sunday! And finally, to paraphrase a great philosopher from Houston: If my country behind can do it, you can do it!
One last thing, shout out to my Aunt Tonya who quoted another great philosopher when I told her about this job: Make that money, don’t let the money make you!
The news is out! I’m guest hosting
@NPRCodeSwitch
live show on Jan. 20th. It’s going to be a great conversation, a lot of fun, set your calendars now! I’m going to figure what I’m going to wear, it will likely be sparkly ✨
Jessica helped me so much! Just feeling comfortable on air with my voice. She never tried to change my sound, just helped me to confidently sound like myself. This is a huge loss for NPR.
This is a huge loss for NPR. Audie is an excellent journalist and host, who I’m constantly in awe of. She’s also so kind and generous with her time and insights. Wishing you all the best, friend!
Co-hosting NPR’s live coverage of the House Select Committee hearing at 9:30 am ET today.
And because I like to provide a range of content, you can also check out my interview with Emilia Clarke for
@NPRItsBeenAMin
that’s out today!
I'm proud to be part of NPR's yearly reading of the Declaration of Independence. But those words, at that time, did not apply to my family, my ancestors. The Emancipation Proclamation did. Today, we read the text on
@MorningEdition
. Thank you
