This article does a wonderful job of putting the Target closure news in context of a) Target's OTHER issues squeezing its profits and b) research showing no industry rise in theft -- Except it does so after FOURTEEN GRAFS parroting the company's POV. 🙄

“Juveniles” is police speak, it’s literally dehumanizing & objectifying. We don’t use this word in regular speech unless it’s with words like “detention” or “delinquent.” +Consider what we know about racism in this system. Use “youth” or “teen” instead.

NYT goes to great lengths to preemptively exonerate Daniel Penny, despite acknowledging the details are unclear. First: needless detail on Jordan Neely's irrelevant arrest record and encounters with mental health clinicians. Then pure speculation.

Journalism as hegemony. I can’t believe I’ve seen multiple trend pieces on “quiet quitting.” This is straight capitalist propaganda lol. A healthy trend named something scary by people annoyed that those they’re used to exploiting have woken up to their exploitation.

Are you a dribs-and-drabs texter (i.e. each thought is its own text), or a Charles Dickens texter (i.e. you try to send one long text containing all relevant info)? Don't say "somewhere in the middle" -- everybody has a tendency!

Imho this is a classic example of “headline irony” where the journalist lets someone saying something ridiculous “speak for themselves” and “you be the judge” except all that does is allow them unchallenged airtime with no fact checks. It’s not doing what you think it’s doing.

Two very different stories, but walking away with the same conclusion: Capitalism theorizes that losing money is one of the worst punishments we have. What happens when an industry builds that into its budget, or gets someone else (taxpayers) to pay? Accountability disappears.

60,000 railroad workers could walk off the job as soon as Friday. It’s about the last thing the US economy needs. A prolonged strike could mean some empty shelves in stores, temporary closures at factories, and higher prices on various consumer goods.
