obama actively courted a lot of racially resentful and conservative voters. right before the 08 election, he made a huge deal of colin powell’s endorsement, despite powell helping push America into the iraq war. whatever obama was, he wasn’t a practitioner of purity politics.

@Eugene_Scott Yeah. A white woman I know here on a city council. She’s been elected for almost 30 years, when she first ran in early 1980s, she got TONS of support from the black community. Why? Her husband was the only white doctor to take black patients during segregation
