program, while reading papers I also try to learn academic English (English is my L2) and save articles that I feel are great examples to learn from. Here is an abstract from

This article was
1. Desk rejected by Journal A
2. Rejected after peer review in Journal B
3. I refused to give up and sent it to the Modern Language Journal: Accepted with minor revisions!
After 8 long months of waiting, another article got rejected. Only one reviewer read it and wrote five lines.🙄 But fear not! We're not giving up. Time to think, refine, and resubmit ASAP! 💪"Those who get rejected the most, publish the most."

This fantastic book arrived today!! Feels great to finally see it and touch it and read it! 😊 In my chapter, I argue that we are all multilingual. And that only thinking of students with immgrant backgrounds as multilingual likely slows down the multilingual turn in schools.
CALL FOR BOOK CHAPTERS!
We are working on a proposal for an edited book collection with Routledge focusing on the intersections between multilingualism and the psychology of language learning and teaching (PLL). Our favourite topics! Please scan the QR code to find out more!
Important topic! Researching multilingualism, I want to also publish in all of my languages (Nynorsk, Bokmål, German, English), but there are many dilemmas: Who will read me? Perceived status related to various languages etc. Others who feel the same?
PERMANENT POSITION IN BERGEN???
Do you hold a PhD in EFL/ESL/EAL and interested in language learning and teaching/teacher education etc? Then look here! We are looking for a new colleague, and that could be you! Many nice colleagues included in the job😊

New article! Should researchers share interview questions in advance or not? Surprisingly, we found little research on the topic. In our reflective piece, we suggest that there are many good reasons to share questions beforehand. Open access!
Yesterday, I attended a seminar with an excellent invited female professor. She was simply introduced as Anna from Trondheim by the male host. Same happened to me a few months ago. I was only called Åsta, whereas the male guest was Dr. X. Sounds familiar?
Gratitude overflow for Prof. Sarah Mercer's enlightening talk on teacher psychology yesterday! 🌟 Her insights were not just informative but felt like "a warm hug on a winter day" (words from the audience). Thank you, for sharing your wisdom and making a lasting impact, Sarah!🙏
One of my first articles written in English now has 500 citations. Why?
Perhaps because:
1. It's among the earliest on this topic (find a gap).
2. I listed the main findings in the abstract (make it easy to cite).
3. People say it's reader-friendly.
📢Our latest article has just been published in Language, Culture and Curriculum, Volume 36, issue 23. It shows that the Scandinavian countries have different ambitions for plurilingual pedagogies in school. Read the full article for free!

If yes, look here: 👇
I got an article rejected today.
R2 very happy, R1 very unhappy.
He (yes, I feel R1 is a he) disliked and rejected all new (younger than 20 years) theories linked to multilingualism...
BUT: Will revise based on the constructive feedback from R2 and resubmit ASAP!

We suggest that sharing interview questions in advance promotes transparency, reduces anxiety, and leads to more thoughtful responses.

While very happy to attend a live conference again, we should continue having online or hybrid conferences, because
1. When looking around at the conference, I could mainly see privileged people like myself from the west with enough money in our pockets or support from work.
Hurrah! I've been told that this exciting book will be available from August 4th!! 🥳🥳🥳
But you can take a look at the very interesting table of contents right now!
Woke up to the news that my study, "Understanding the factors supporting language teachers’ sustained motivation until retirement," has been accepted! 🎉 This one belongs to my most meaningful endeavors. So grateful to the retired language teachers who shared their stories ❤️

Introducing the launch of the Journal of Education for Multilingualism (JEM)... 🥳🤩
I'm thrilled to announce the birth of our new academic platform dedicated to exploring the dynamic landscape of multilingual education.
"Brilliant article - there is so much talk and so many different opinions on how to conduct interviews. The question of presenting interview questions beforehand is rarely discussed." Happy our recently published article is striking a chord with readers✨
Our rejected article was resubmitted today! 🥳🥳 Despite the rejection from the first journal, the insightful comments from the second reviewer greatly enhanced our new submission. So: Fingers crossed the new journal will embrace it and send it out for review ASAP! 🤞🤞
Just did my talk on multilingualism for Teachers' Day. 🎤🍎 And just like earlier: Norwegian as a second language and mother tongue educators show up, but main languages teachers seem to find the topic less relevant. When can we start embracing ALL students as multilingual?
Today is the

Let's celebrate by encouraging linguistic diversity and multilingual education to develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world. ❤️💚💙
In this article, we concluded, somewhat surprised, that Swedes, Danes and Norwegians have different ambitions for multilingualism in schools. Open access!

to wrap up the semester with my MA students!
Lessons learned:
1. Students ask more questions.
2. Very suitable for small student groups.
2. Check the weather forecast...!

First, there's nervosity at the thought of opening the email. And then you find the editor's call for major revisions, only to discover that the feedback from the referees consists of constructive suggestions that are surprisingly manageable!

Five things I have learned from collaborating with others this past academic year:
1. Other people have awesome ideas.
2. We are smarter together.
3. I am more productive.
4. I enjoy my job more.
5. I publish more.
What to learn in our study:
1. Find out how Norwegian secondary school students view the benefits of speaking multiple languages.
2. Discover how personal experiences shape their beliefs and the impact on language learning.

"Those who get rejected the most, are the ones publishing the most."
I read this sentence in P. Silvia's book "How to write a lot" when I was a PhD.
And it was and still is one of those sentences that have inspired me the most over the years in academia!

Happy to see growing interest in our questionnaire, now being adopted in multiple countries. You can access and adapt it for your needs under "Supplemental" on the website. Plans for a seminar next year to discuss its application and share findings!

Happy International Mother Language Day to all of us!
On February 21, we celebrate the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of people and societies all around the world.
From online publication of an article until its inclusion in an issue, it can often take 1-2 years.
So, I'm very pleased with the Modern Language Journal for finding a home for my article only three weeks later.
Thank you, MLJ! 🙏
Thank you JMMD for being so efficient and professional! Our article was published 2.5 months after submission. Last year, we got a paper rejected from the JMMD. But very fast response (three weeks) and with constructive feedback from reviewers included.👏🙏
Being multilingual is gold!
It allows you to communicate and understand others by using your knowledge of languages and learning strategies.

So happy to see this study published. The findings underline the importance of contextualizing data and understanding the ecology in which teaching and learning of any subject or any language takes place.

Juhuuu! Misuzu Shimotori and I just received funding from the Meltzer Foundation to explore elderly people's motivation for language learning in Japan and Norway! What positive effects (if any) do the learners experience? And how can language teaching be adapted to their needs?
