Who in Canada is doing cheque writing at the first meeting? Who in Canada is investing in people + ideas not data + markets?
Talked to a lot of Canadian VCs, wonderful people, great finance folks, but they're not investing in people + ideas. Who is investing in people + ideas?

We're now two quarters into building ascent.
A few observations:
On average, there's a lot of ambition around. However, the problem with communicating that ambition runs deep. A large swath of the folks we meet are simply struggling to break down and then convey that ambition

Here is what one of our founders said about us:

Would imagine 100% of startups at some point in their lifecycle get derailed by advice that isnโt applicable to their stage or market.
A fair amount of our work is explaining why some advice given isnโt applicable.
A large % of those who make it are bullet-dodging masters.
@ascent_hi
how many startups have you seen derailed by bad advice?
The default should be no advice and only offer it when begged by the founder and with plenty of caveats.
As you approach IPO, prepare for INTENSE scrutiny.
Every decision you've ever made will be under the microscope. Hope you've been keeping good records and making ethical choices.
Remember: It all comes out in the wash.
