National Geographic videographer, Trip Jennings, was shot in the face by an impact munition in Portland. The round went through the eye of his gas mask, causing eye lacerations, and he was pepper sprayed so bad that the doctor had to wear a respirator. His account posted on FB:

I was put on an Atomwaffen kill list of journalists taken straight from an article published at Quillette where he's an editor. Last year, I was punched in the face by a Proud Boy on film while reporting, but Andy was too busy playing victim to mind. His "work" supports violence.

Now that Andy Ngo has admitted—in court—that he targets left-wing activists for abuse (in the same way he perceives himself targeted), I think it's important to note that many mainstream platforms have given him time to do what is explicitly intensification of political conflict.

Last night the Proud Boys descended on Downtown Portland with the intention of terrorizing a vigil for a black man killed by police. And then physically assaulted people who showed up to defend the community. Calling these outrages a "both sides" thing is simplistic and wrong.

I keep wanting to say this and it keeps getting stuck in my throat, but here it goes. The GOP has effectively built a combat party. It's not a political party that you see in a system in which communicating ideas matters. It's a mass party with a paramilitary function.

Nobody called Black Lives Matter protestors "antifa" in 2014, because nobody even knew that it was a thing. Now that ppl know it's a thing, they're using it to describe all big civil unrest, because that's easier than understanding complex social movements.

How do people expect anybody to believe them about literally anything when they lie in the most unadulterated and reprehensible manner?

I think, maybe, the victim narrative that he milked for years has substantially less weight in retrospect, given his admitted targeting of what must have been more than a hundred protesters via mugshots, etc, for violence. So why'd groups like CNN run 3 stories on it in a day?

But that's a broader issue, too. When LW professors are forced out of their jobs by lynching threats, they're not given premium billing on the outrage circuit. There is no outrage circuit for the left, bc the left doesn't have the same entitlement in the US. I'm just rambling now

So, a man apparently of South Asian descent with a Nazi flag emblazoned with a swastika rammed a UHaul into the White House gates. Once again the far right is running with the "psychop" claim. I'd like to dig into that a bit. /1

Here's KATU News with a very strange writeup about a left-wing youth summer camp, closing with a specious quotation from Andy Ngo, cited as a banal "local Portland reporter." The worst mass shooting on record happened at a left-wing youth summer camp. What is KATU trying to do?

Here's a piece that I've been meaning to write, but haven't had the guts, for nigh on 10 years now... It starts with my experiences with fascist violence in Moscow in the spring of 2005, when I first started learning about Nazbols and Strasserists. /1

Wheeler should resign. You had far-right militants shooting paintballs at people just yesterday, and as known vigilantes came into town with weapons today, you didn't prepare for, I don't know, a far-right riot? It's beyond negligence, and it's something Portlanders don't deserve

Btwn Greenwald supporting Fuentes, Rogan telling ppl not to take the COVID vaccine, and Medhurst hosting Almassian, I'm almost starting to feel like today's "populism" just amounts to belief in conspiracy theories and joining with the far right in opposition to liberalism.

blue checks insisting that Latinos who wear "Right Wing Death Squad" patches and celebrate Pinochet can't have neo-Nazi ideas should try to learn more about ... right-wing death squads and Pinochet.

A Nazi CIA special ops and Navy SEAL trainer wearing night vision apparently chucked no-frag pipe bombs at police and protesters. So I went down a bit of a rabbit hole. There's a big ecosystem of these types of folks. A THREAD on relevant developments in the militia movement. /1

Perhaps in efforts to teach the left a lesson, intelligent centrists sought to amplify Andy as a way of showing loudly that no form of political violence would be tolerated by punishing ppl closer to their own side. And in doing so, they played into the RW cycle of brutality.
