Special day today!! I signed my first art prints of my Sawad poster. Dedicated to my dad, it features the words “ila abi” which is Arabic for “to my dad” I designed my Sawad typeface in the period following my dad’s passing and it’s an exploration of the darkness of grief.

This is due to directional bias that comes from the direction of reading. If u read mostly in a script from left to right you expect actions in the real world to go in the same direction too. You even scan and perceive the world in the same direction. So it’s not just alcohol 😅

The Dal is one of my favourite letters to draw! It's also one of the easiest so if you're at beginner levels it's a good character to tackle as it won't give you too much trouble. Easier to nail the concept in easy to draw letters than tough ones like medial Heh!

On Monday I started my online Arabic type design course with 10 participants from Algeria, Oman, Saudi, UAE, Iraq, Bahrain, Egypt, Poland, and China! Fantastic start and happy to bring such a nice group together. #arabictype
