"Hey, don’t turn on the engines while I’m in here, alright?"
"They're not engines, they-"
"If they make the thing move, I'm gonna call them engines."
"/-++++-+-+ + -- ++-/ doesn't move. It's called 'warping', I think."
"Don't turn them on! Just don't turn them on!"
Auto-cartography - Probably optional if you'd rather try to remember the twisting halls on your own.
It won't show much information, though, and you can only see a bit of the map at a time...
Visuals and everything are a bit work-in-progress.
For the past few months I've been rewriting the entire game from scratch.
We've moved away from Unity, and UTTER INVERSE is now being developed and produced in the Godot engine instead.
More information and screenshots to come soon.
Almost all screenshots on the Steam page for UTTER INVERSE have been updated to reflect the current state of the game.
Please take a look, and wishlist UTTER INVERSE at the link below:
AI stuff is going to become indistinguishable from human-made art very quickly, but it doesn't matter.
Do you give up when you see a human do something better than you? Faster than you? This is the same. Some AI art is going to become famous. Human art is already famous.
I've redrawn all environment textures in double detail across the current extent of the game.
The camera position and FOV have also been changed, plus a new ambient occlusion style and updated lighting.
Updated Steam screenshots are coming when there's also new stuff to show.
Roguelike-y games that have you unlocking power after each run are evil; many forced guaranteed losses to eventually be handed a win invalidates the play experience. Unlocks post-run should always be options, side-grades, alternate game modes, difficulty increases, etc.
It’s my birthday, so I’m 28 years old, now. A few years ago I decided to kill myself when I was 27 so that I could meet Kurt Cobain*, but I lived.
I think I realized ten years ago that I wish I was born a woman. I never really told anyone.
OCCULT STIGMA have no SHATTER ability and cannot be cast from. Instead, their OCCULT abilities are active and can trigger as long as they're equipped.
Though, they still take up a slot and are lost forever on removal.
They're also obtained through obscure means...
This is it; The Town that Burnt Away.
There isn't much left, is there?
I know, you haven't been here before, but... this smell -
You feel nauseous, don't you, May?
From shining droplets, borne by my weapon's edge... these STIGMA;
I can feel a quiet thrill -
With cunning, I might channel the full weight of the SWORD.

Updated screenshots forthcoming.
After using Godot for a few months I can very confidently say that I honestly don’t consider Unity to be a game development tool.
Unlike Godot it doesn’t actively assist in game development beyond providing a space to put things together, and it’s also much harder to use.

UTTER INVERSE is an esoteric dark science-fantasy girl-girl romantic-mythic DRPG with pseudo-realtime menu-based combat, being developed solely by me.

I do hate to ask, but if you think UTTER INVERSE looks interesting, please share that interest with others who might be interested, too.
I might not be able to continue development without that kind of support.
It’s my birthday.
Thank you for your interest in UTTER INVERSE.
Thank you to everyone who helped me, even a little.
Thank you to .
@mura_pole
for beautifully rendering May and one other.
I hope I can continue development. I’m sorry if I can’t.
Love,
ANWN M.
Does it piss you off? You'll never be as good as the old masters. You'll never be as good as a machine.
But the old masters had older masters, and they didn't give up, did they? The machine doesn't give up, either. What about you?

Spurred on by what would haunt another, May continues towards the core...
Each enemy slaughtered increases May's OVERFLOW, raising her attributes and the voracity of her opponents in kind.

When I close my eyes, I see RED LIGHT -
UTTER INVERSE is a little like a classic JRPG with the veneer of a DRPG/CRPG. It's not really a dungeon-crawler in some of the expected ways. Also, unlike most of both types, the player's party only consists of one character.
I worry about whether it's "palatable" enough.
I like hearing people say they're waiting for UTTER INVERSE, but I hope they understand that I only started working on it full-time about three months ago. I also apologize for not talking about it that much.
I want to work on UTTER INVERSE full time. I’ve had enough of real life. My one and a half hour commute plus everything else is too much. I don’t think I’m the kind of person who can fit into this kind of lifestyle…
I reinstalled Destiny 2 because some expansions are free now and I used to like killing people. I joined a match to kill people and one of my enemies had a cowboy hat on. I wonder why some games kill their own art direction like this. Anyway, I took pleasure in butchering the man
The only impetus somebody could have for describing “cisgender” as a slur is to “other” people who try to use it in serious context; namely, people who are trying to explain what transgenderism is.
It’s invented self-victimization to keep other people from knowing better.
I'm looking for a sound effect designer/game audio engineer/sound developer.

I'm only looking for one person. Please don't blindly apply or feign interest.
I tried writing for UTTER INVERSE in FocusWriter and it made me fall too deep into my brain. I need some kind of barrier... Lately I just type stuff into Obsidian on my phone while I'm lying upside-down against the wall with my feet in the air.
I must admit that I am less of a fan of dungeon crawlers than I am of their presentation and style. UTTER INVERSE may appear like one but, perhaps, in some ways it isn’t. Then again, maybe it purely is.
Sometimes the Twitter recommended news or video thing shows me irresponsibly transphobic stuff. Sometimes it’s subtle and sometimes it’s direct. I end up blocking a lot of accounts…
I think that when someone is going through a transitory period there is sometimes an expectation from others that they should already be done.
It’s difficult whenever it happens, but if that transitory period is months or years long those expectations can be really painful.
In the Dark Souls 1 intro you have: Tangible glasslike thunderbolts, featherlike smoke-like visible disease, stone with flesh underneath, abstract hole in abstracted human skin, “warmth” as a concrete object. That’s how you do really lovely fantasy.
Someone asked me what the game was about, and I told them, and then they asked me why someone would want to play. I didn’t know what to say, so I said “Because it’s cool.”
In the original Final Fantasy, the Intelligence stat does nothing at all and weapons load their index number for critical hit checking instead of their intended critical hit stat.
So, none of you are allowed to make fun of any bugs UTTER INVERSE might have. Okay?
I don’t think I want to play Signalis until UTTER INVERSE is released - I don’t want to be accused of copying, after all. I’ve already found out that “cycles” are used to denote time there, too! At least the main character doesn’t wear braids…
I’m rereading BLAME!
It’s packed full of fresh ideas. I’m a little surprised people seem to just take away the really big buildings part and not much else.
The ending of the opening to Dwarf Fortress and its hard cut to title screen and main theme start, while the echo from the intro continues, is literally the most striking zero-interaction moment in any video game and I'm really honestly not over-exaggerating.
Anyway, my computer broke. UTTER INVERSE is backed up but some other things aren’t, including important stuff related to the game. I can’t do anything about it for at least a week. Hopefully I can get my stuff off of it.
Of course, I’ll give another status update when I can.
I thought about removing the name input screen from UTTER INVERSE. May was supposed to be like how FFVII Cloud is Cloud even though you can pick a name for him, but maybe May is more May than Cloud is meant to be Cloud.
