New milestone for me: finally reached 100$ MRR with my indie apps 😍
Currently this is 100% coming from
@AmatoApp
, but I’m already working on another app I want to release this year 😊
For anyone interested in trying out SwiftData, I can totally recommend having a look at the sample project linked below. I was a bit overwhelmed with the Backyard Birds sample code, but this project keeps it simple 😊
Friday afternoons / evenings are usually reserved for my side projects, but I just had to set up this beauty ☺️
Can’t wait to see the difference in battery / programming coming from a 2018 MacBook with an i5 😁
Most of you probably don’t know this: I have an app on the App Store called Decisly. The reason I don’t talk about it is that I’m kinda ashamed and not really proud of it… 🙈
Recently I got the feeling I should improve on it. So I’m now making a complete rework with Swift UI 🧵
Today I created new screenshots for the upcoming
@AmatoApp
2 version.
The list of remaining todos for the update is getting smaller and smaller. Feels really great knowing I managed to do everything in time for the iOS 17 release 😊 Now I can really enjoy the event on Tuesday
CoreData question: when using the Xcode CoreData example, the default error handling looks like the code below.
Any better way of handling this? It’s specially pointed out that one shouldn’t use fatalError in production…
I completely redesigned the widgets for
@AmatoApp
today. Took way longer than expected to get the look and feel right 😅
Tomorrow I’ll add an interactive widget 😊
My tip for the DSA compliance in App Store Connect ⬇️
I bought a new cheap sim card without a cellular plan, so I don’t have to use my personal phone number.
I decided to make it go straight to voicebox when calling, with a note saying you can reach me on my email address 📧
October insights for
@AmatoApp
⬇️
- Got some App Store features in United States, Australia and New Zealand 🙌
- Broke the record from last month with $367 in revenue 🤯
Can’t wait what the next month will bring 💪

SwiftUI question: how can I stop a sheet from animating when being shown / hidden? 🤔
I want to make something similar to the Maps app, where a sheet is permanently attached to a view. If I show the parent view via fullScreenCover, the sheet animation always happens afterwards
Still looking for some beta testers for my new app called Granite ⛰️
Granite helps you track your climbing progress and accomplishments with ease on your iPhone
If you’re into bouldering / climbing and want to test this app, write me a DM 👋
Finally got a simple solution for this: call .listRowSpacing on the List to replace the padding. It was introduced at WWDC this year, which means it’s currently only available in the Xcode 15 beta, but it should work with iOS 15.0+
Thanks
@_Kavsoft
for telling me about it! 😊
Increase user retention and make your apps more successful.
Allow users to vote on your backlog in-app, which allows you to spend time on those features that matter.

To the SwiftUI experts: Is it production ready yet? I am just about to start a new project where the minimum deployment target is iOS 14. I really really want to start the project with SwiftUI, but I am afraid that I will be stuck pretty soon…
It’s my birthday today 🥳
If you want to give me a birthday gift, you could leave a rating/ review for
@AmatoApp
. It would make me really happy 🙏
App can be downloaded here ⬇️
This time I’ll try something different:
I’ll create a simple app which uses as many of the new APIs as possible. I’m thinking of SwiftData, interactive widgets, improved animations, and many more.
I’ll be posting updates, as well as obstacles all in this thread ⬇️
#WWDC23
Got the
@AmatoApp
2 update through review 🥳
This means: new compact style widgets, Lock Screen widgets and an interactive widget plus many more improvements to the whole look and feel will be available on Monday 😊
My goal for 2023: increase the MRR of my apps to about 50-75$. May not seem much, but they’re all just side projects and my current MRR is 5$ 🙈
Here are some things I’m trying to do to increase revenue ⬇️🧵

I got interviewed for the indie interview series 🙌
If you want to find out the funny story on how I came up with the idea for
@AmatoApp
have a look below ⬇️
Another new week, another cool indie interview ⚡️
This week I'm happy to feature
@anikaseibezeder
, maker of the popular Amato app to remind us to interact with our loved ones
"Don’t over engineer your first version. Try to get the product out quickly to gather as much feedback
Why are we still required to upload 5.5" screenshots to ASC, if the latest device (iPhone 8 Plus) doesn’t even support iOS 17 anymore? 😅 Will they change this after iOS 17 is out?
Felt inspired to see if I can create a first prototype of an app idea in about 2h as
@jordibruin
suggests in his 2-2-2 method.
It took me a little bit longer, but I’m happy with the results and will continue to improve the app 💪
Is SwiftData production ready yet? 🤔 I’m working on my climbing app Granite again, and I’m tempted to try using SwiftData for persistency.
As the app isn’t out yet I don’t have to deal with data migration and that stuff, which makes me want to try SwiftData even more 😅
Amato 2.1 is here and contains major improvements to the usability of the app:
- Next planned interaction date is now shown everywhere
- New look for contact list and details
- New interaction type: FaceTime

Meet Granite ⛰️ the new bouldering / climbing app I’m currently working on.
Granite helps you track your sends and flashes with an ease on your iPhone.

I made some huge progress in ASO for
@AmatoApp
today. I found many more competitors than I thought I have, collected keywords they‘re ranked in and sorted out ones with low popularity.
Now it’s time to further sort out the list by how competitive the keywords are
I think something’s wrong with the conversion rate for
@AmatoApp
. 0.2% seems way too low 🙈
Impressions are pretty high, which is probably caused by a US App Store feature since October. This might influence the stats a bit.
But still, there is so much room for improvement 📈
Apple Journal app question: did anyone manage to get third party Journal Suggestions working yet?
AFAIK the suggestions can also come from Shortcut donations. I tried to implement that, but I still don’t see anything inside the Journal app 🤔
Amato 2 is here and brings exciting new features for iOS 17, as well as many improvements to the whole look and feel 🥳
- New widgets
- Add custom dates and notes to interactions
- New interaction types
- Redesign of whole app
Get the major update ⬇️
A small story on why it's important to respond to support emails ⬇️
After a user reached out to me with a bug they faced, I had a look at it and released a fix short after.
I let them know about the fix and they were so happy they left this wonderful review ☺️
Working on improving the reminders in
@AmatoApp
as it’s the most requested feature right now. I’m pretty happy with the view so far 😊
Next up: scheduling 🙈. This might be tricky to get right, especially custom intervals like „every two weeks at 9:00am“…

Hi 👋 I‘m Anika,
student and part-time iOS developer.
Currently reworking my side project Decisly and hoping to start my own business someday ☺️
@onmyway133
I’m currently working on
@AmatoTheApp
. The app helps you stay in touch with your loved ones and reminds you to check in from time to time 📞💕
More on the development can be found here ⬇️
New beta version for
@AmatoTheApp
available now!
This version includes widgets for your favorite contacts, which means that my 3 major features I planned on adding in the first App Store version are already done 🥳🎉
Next up: working on paywall and IAPs
Amato 1.1 is out now!
New features:
- Add birthday and anniversary reminders
- Bulk import your contacts
- Add more infos to your contacts (multiple phone numbers and email addresses)
- Sort or filter your contacts list
#WWDC23
will be awesome and fun, but don’t forget to check in with your family and friends from time to time 📱💕
To celebrate, your first year of
@AmatoApp
PRO will be 50% off until the end of the week with code WWDC23 🎉
Wrote the last page of my thesis today. Just have to make some adjustments before the final submission 💪
Now I can finally concentrate on more important things, like getting the Decisly TestFlight beta ready 😁
It’s Cyber Monday, so it’s the last chance to get the Black Friday deal for

I‘m completely reworking my decision helper app Decisly for iOS. No beta ready yet, but hopefully very soon🤞
Here‘s a sneak peek at the view where you can create pros & cons and add them to available options.
@JPEGuin
I think the second one looks the best, as it shows some similarities to voting. The first one is similar but can easily be mistaking for a todo app.
I’ve seen many people creating app icons with Midjourney lately.
Might as well try it, but I’m not sure how licensing would go… AFAIK I would have to pay to use it commercially?
@twannl
Maybe adding an option so the user gets reminded when their trial is about to end?
I’ve seen this a lot in paywalls and I think it builds trust and reassures the user that they won’t forget
Today marks the day I finally made an appointment with a therapist.
It‘s not easy to admit you need professional help, but to actually do something about it, is on a whole other level.
Decided to improve the onboarding flow for
@AmatoApp
. It may take a bit more time than before, but it’s much more interactive and shows the user what this app is about 😊
Little sneak peek at the new
@AmatoApp
version that’s coming soon 👀
The app now automatically syncs your contacts with your address book. You can also edit your contacts directly from within the app 📒
So now I’m completely reworking the app with SwiftUI and I hope I can improve on those problems I had.
Looking forward to sharing updates in this thread, TestFlight invites and the app itself with you all 💪🚀
I decided to restore my iPhone back to iOS 16 from the iOS 17 beta. I didn’t encounter any bugs or crashes, but the battery drain on my iPhone XS is massive 😳
As this is my main (and only) device, it’s better to wait for a more stable beta version
Last update for
@AmatoTheApp
was a while ago, but in the meanwhile I created a paywall I’m pretty happy with ☺️
(except that a wrong price is shown with Lifetime, where I can’t do anything about it 🙃)
I’m already working on onboarding and some fine-tuning
I’m really loving this interaction for my upcoming climbing app Granite 🧗
Tap to log a success, double tap to log a success at first try and long press to log a failed attempt 😊

3. Learn more about ASO and try to increase the reachability of
@AmatoApp
with it.
This means trying out if other app icons, titles, subtitles or screenshots may perform better, as well as adding more localizations to the app 🌍
I’m doing a little research on what people are willing to spend for the Pro version of
@AmatoTheApp
. Would be awesome if some of you could fill out the form below ⬇️
I had a look at some analytics thanks to
@Telemetry_Deck
and it seems most of the downloads didn’t even get to see the requestReview prompt. Probably because they closed the app beforehand.
Now I just need to know, how I can get people to give the app a decent chance 🤔
I made the lifetime IAP for
@AmatoTheApp
free for 24h and promoted it on AppHookup. It performed well and I got over 2k downloads!
The amount of ratings however only increased by 6 (from 11 to 17). Is this ratio of downloads / ratings normal?
I’m a bit disappointed that developers can’t easily add custom suggestions to the new Journal app.
The only thing I found was that you can add suggestions with HealthKit, CallKit or SiriKit, but it’s very vague on how that actually works
