@thogge @Austen Purchasing power, adjusted for inflation, has barely moved however. The skyrocketing debt & cost of healthcare, construction, and college vastly outweigh minor wage increases.

We have a medical industrial complex. This 'progress' we see is largely better detection, not better treatment. Tumor size has also plummeted in recent decades. Simply put, we catch cancer earlier.

@ani_pai @curiouswavefn Speculation: Bulk of the slight increases in cancer survival rates might have come simply from better/earlier diagnoses and not better medicines, i.e., cures/$ even lower than apparent at first glance.

I like @reddit for finding quirky rabbitholes, but it's easily susceptible to bubble-like behaviour by letting anyone comment or vote. It's cool to see new players like @isTruStory unbundling reddit by adding an element of skin in the game to the online debating sphere.
