Sharing an incident that happened with me in the flight from Calcutta to Abu Dhabi (transit to Boston).
I am very grateful to the staff of
@__Etiihad
and the Abu Dhabi police for the support they provided me.
TW: Sexual Assault
I am working to get this incident out to the founder of Jindal Steel
@MPNaveenJindal
so that he is aware of the kind of people who are in leadership. I am also afraid of how this molestor must be treating his female employees from a place of power.
Holi in Benaras!
It was one of the most traumatic event in my adult life
When they release listicles on places to celebrate Holi, we women aren’t the target and I learnt that the hard way
In 2018, my male colleagues and I decided to drive down from Patna to Benaras
I was escorted to the next gate to ensure he does not come near me. He also did not deny this when the cops asked him questions.
I am sharing this because I want to remind everyone that something like this can happen to anyone.
I was seated next to an industrialist (Dinesh Kr. Saraogi, CEO of Jindal Steel)
He must be roughly 65 in age & told me he now lives in Oman but travels frequently. He started chatting me up - very normal conversation about our roots, family etc
He is from Churu in Rajasthan...
He started groping me. I was frozen in shock and scare.
I eventually ran off to the washroom and complained to the air staff. Thankfully the Etihad team was very pro-active and took action immediately. They made me sit at their seating area and served me tea & fruits.
He kept calling them to ask where I had gone. The staff also informed the cops at Abu Dhabi who were waiting as soon the gates of the aircraft opened.
I could not proceed with a complaint because I would have missed my connecting flight to Boston.
& both sons are married & settled in the US etc.
The conversation moved to what my hobbies are. He asked if I enjoy watching movies & I was like of course. He then proceeds to tell me he has some movie clips on his phone.
He whips out his phone and earphones to show me PORN!
@ananyac05
Dear Ananya, thank you for reaching out and speaking up! It takes a lot of courage to do what you did and I want you to know that we have a zero tolerance policy for such matters. I have asked the team to immediately investigate the matter and thereafter strictest and necessary
@suchitrav

Incidents like these bring back a lot of past trauma too. Having disgusting men on comments doesn’t help either but support from people like you remind me of why it is important to talk about it! ✨
I’m blessed with a partner who is not intimidated by my success, not shy of rejecting hyper masculinity, and most importantly trustworthy & secure
Wish you a v happy birthday my love
As a born Hindu, I just want to apologise to my Muslim friends!
We have wronged you even if the SC doesn't believe it. We have and wish we could correct it!

Thank you
@etihad
(I seemed to have tagged your wrong account).
I am forever grateful to your 2 crew members on flight EY 257 on 16th July from CCU to AUH, who shielded me and stood by through this ordeal.
He said Ma’am don’t go too far. I cannot stop you from going but Benaras is far from the tourist dream destination on Holi than you know
I giggled and dismissed his word of caution
Along with 2 boys and one girl we met at the hostel, we decided to go towards Assi ghat
For no good reason, some men thought it was a good sport to see which one could get our glass
We were caught off guard but my friend hit the accelerator like a fast and furious movie
We weren’t fast enough. A stone came flying in from the rear glass, shattering it
However, crossing these ceremonial areas we saw the crowds largely involved intoxicated men boisterously bustling around the fire
We slowed down whenever we crossed such a scene to ensure safety of the devotees
We forgot about our own…
We were pelleted with stones
Congress knew Modi is undefeatable in Varanasi but cutting his winning margin would still help retain PGV as their Brahmastra, says
@bainjal
Moreover, INC is banking on Wayanad win to field PGV from Amethi. Could have been done either way!
After all Benaras ki Holi, am I right?
We set out late evening, after concluding a rather distracted work day
It was the night of holika dahan (burning of Holika)
Villages were celebrating the same along the sides of the highway (not unusual at all)
The rock hit my back but it’s speed and intensity was broken by the glass and bags lining the back
I was unharmed, just slightly perturbed and unable to react
We only stopped after 10 odd kms
In our broken car and a disturbed mood we made it to Benaras
I beckoned our group to make haste and retreat into the hostel asap
We walked by with such speed that it could put marathon walkers to shame
I still remember the uneasiness in the pit of my stomach, the goosebumps at the back of my nape
The morning hours were uncannily silent
All chai shops were only heating up milk while pasting up Bhang
We diligently bought a decent quantity hoping to make our newly found foreigner friends try this organic intoxicant
Our hostel was duly locked after we came back
Notices were hung up on the doors cautioning against venturing out and absolving themselves of responsibility if anyone does
Us being desis decided the notice was only for foreigners who do not know the chaos that Holi is
We spoke to the manager at the front desk
I felt a fear which was very new
I could feel their eyes searching out the two women who had suddenly entered their lair
To my horror, groups of them started walking towards us as we stood gaping unable to move
They approached me with colours in their hands
We reached the main road
It was swarming with heads
Speeding bikes, carried men whose faces were coloured beyond recognition
They screamed chants and carried swords and sticks
They seemed fueled with alcoholic rage, their eyes gleaning notoriously
I used to always like her but after today my appreciation for her has increased. She answered endless questions of all
@CPLFellows
and around 5-6 of mine without any hesitation. Thank you

We must have effectively walked only a 1 km before living hell descended upon us
While walking out of the lane of our hostel we were confronted by a number of drunk men who got distracted from us in seconds
Taking great amusement in that we kept walking
Without asking me they almost slapped in the process of aggressively putting colour on my face
One man held out his hand to shake mine. I folded mine instead but he grabbed it saying Don’t mind, it’s Holi!
Another man pulled me into an embrace forcing my friend to step in
He embraced the guy instead asking him to leave the girls alone
One of the boys in our group of wanderers was a Chinese man
My survival senses kicked in as the initial shock wore off
While my friend still engaged these men, I simply turned around
Honestly, everyone needs to follow
@theliverdr
He dispels stupidity everyday at the cost of his own sanity AND lord knows we need it in a country which is constantly questioning science.
I have been tagged on this video multiple times.
Before I discuss the video further, I request people to please not tag me on such videos. My central nervous system was assaulted and insulted with the highest level of stupidity from whoever this lady is and I am reeling from all
What congress will do
- accept verdict
- have a CWC meeting
- Sonia and Rahul will do drama
- no president for some time
- Sonia/Rahul will be president again
- No agenda for next election cycle
- No on ground work
And repeat
You don’t like Bengalis because we don’t fit into your regressive template of North Indian Hinduism which has no respect for women.
The Hinduism we follow is not ridden with corrupt practices and that scares the likes of you.
I have to say:
This is VERY important in the context of freedom of the media & freedom of expression overall.
Does a journalist/whistleblower need to approach the authorities before publishing an investigative piece?
Do they have to be complainants first?

No woman in our country is free from the shackles of patriarchy.
My heart goes out to this young bereaved partner of a slain soldier who is being slandered by her in-laws.
Will not be surprised if she was being tortured by them and was forced to leave after his death!!
Amid allegations made by the parents of late Captain Anshuman Singh against their daughter-in-law Smriti Singh, Army sources clarified that the AGIF of ₹1 crore was split between his wife and parents while the pension goes directly to the spouse.
@dperi84
reports.
Important:
I am running errands for families living in and around Theatre Road-Park Street.
My family is vaccinated and I have car at my disposal.
Feel free to ask for whatever you need.
P.S. If you are feeling anxious, I have also gotten a few therapist friends on board too
Okay, so, I've decided to share a deeply personal story on Twitter, even though I know that Twitter isn't kind at all. But I'm sharing this personal story in public interest, hoping it might reach someone who needs to hear this. (1/n)

I am a Hindu and I am sorry.
I am sorry you are not safe in your country.
I am sorry that your country is not yours anymore.
I am sorry that you are being harmed in the name of religion.
I am sorry, a hundred times sorry.
First you hate on Bengal then get triggered for being called out.
That’s sweet.
My tweet does not talk about crimes against women.
Maa Durga and Kali are our guiding goddesses and women in our practice is central. We have female priestesses.
Facts don’t change

might find it hard to surf on the Modi wave alonein 2019.
Real questions and grassroot level issues will have to be addressed!
Avoiding the realities of sugarcane non-payment seemed to have been the missing missile in

Tonight at 9pm: we examine the national implications of today’s bypoll results. Is the BJP in real trouble ahead of 2019? Or can the Modi magic still work? With a year to go for the General Election, has the tide turned? Or is it too early to say? Watch the debate
The outrage over Kali's representation is a classic example of brahamanisation of Hinduism
For centuries and beyond, meat/Tobacco/alcohol has been offered to Gods & Goddesses

Fam. My test results returned NEGATIVE!
But I am glad I got it done. Here's why:
1. I was showing mild symptoms & didn't want to assume
2. Each floor in my building has a senior citizen
3. My grandfather is 85+
4. I have a social responsibility towards everyone in my ecosystem

I come from a line of fascist apologists.
I have grown up against a backdrop of Hindu extremists sharing the table with me justifying genocides, demeaning Gandhi-Nehru, and proudly thumping their chests at brazen acts like Babri Masjid demolition.

I grew up being called “Kaali Kaluti bengan looti” by my entire family.
My concerned mother would put tomatoes, lemons & what not to make my sports tan magically vanish
Every fortnight I was tortured with ubtan making me feel like my skin would tear off
Brown and proud.
