After being on maternity leave for six months, I am back at work today with
@dougkammerer
! Thank you all for your kind words and messages. Now time to talk about a cloudy work week with rain at times on
@nbcwashington
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend! Today will be my last day for a few months as I begin maternity leave on Monday and join these fabulous ladies, and so many others, in the wonderful journey of motherhood. Thank you all for your kind words & wonderful well wishes๐ธDerek Taggart
If you were watching News 4 at 5PM today, you caught my special announcement! Thanks to
@DoreenGentzler
and
@AimeeCho4
for helping me to break the news. Here's the exciting (unplanned) moment:
Loving the cherry blossoms, I consider myself an unofficial blossom ambassador. All smiles but if I see someone touching the trees ... watch out! Current manners reminder count today: 4. If general respect for nature doesnโt stop folks you can remind them they will get a ticket.
If you want to brave the cold tomorrow AM, as dawn begins to brighten, Antares, Jupiter, Venus, and the Moon form a graceful arc, 35ยฐ long, in the southeastern sky.
The moon and Venus form a strikingly close bright pair, about 2ยฐ apart at the time of dawn. Photo:

Something to RT ... the snowfall amounts for tomorrow morning are going up. Not just delays but now cancellations as well are likely for schools. Here is our latest snowfall map:

you really need to stop saying this is a tricky forecast! you lose all credibility when you donโt know how to do your job and meteorologists on other stations donโt think itโs tricky
The world needs more people like Han. I had a nail in my tire, he pulled me up a chair in the auto body shop, fixed it professionally and quickly and I was on my way. What Han didnโt know is my job and the fact that Iโm working all weather shifts today.
@Shell
on River and Butler
Back in the station ... for midday only. My computer decided to stop working yesterday so I put on a work dress, heels and drove to
@nbcwashington
this morning! Feels great to see some co-workers and change up the scenery.
Literally from my home to yours Iโll be updating the weather outlook heading into the weekend on News 4 Midday at 11AM. Tracking a big temperature ๐ข and some rain.
Hereโs the bread meter for Wednesday with snow changing over to ice to rain youโll probably want to have a two day supply with residual delays likely into Thursday AM.
@dougkammerer
and I have the latest on News4 now through 7 PM.
We have upped our
#SNOW
totals big time for most of the region. Stay with
#StormTeam4
for the very latest and I will be doing a Facebook LIVE in 3 minutes!
How cool is this? Jupiter in the lower left and Saturn (rings visible!), in the upper right seen from our Chopper 4 in the southwestern sky this evening! The planets haven't been this visibly close in 800 years. This great conjunction is being referred to as the Christmas Star.
Iโll be off evenings these next few days as I update our graphics look. One element Iโll be updating is the fall meter, whatโs your vote ... Pumpkin Spice Latte or Apple Cider? Apple Cider all day for me! Vote ๐ ๐ or ๐
Moms are the best! My mom had a meeting in DC today and surprised me with a new hair dryer after my home dryer blew up a few weeks ago. โค๏ธ Thanks Momma
Check this out! Our friends in VA Beach got to see the release of 3 teenage loggerheads and 1 baby back into the ocean today. They were found too far north off the coast of Jersey and had pneumonia so they were undergoing rehab in VA for a few months until they were healthy. โค๏ธ๐ข
A new survey reveals that the majority of voters in both political parties support initiatives to fight climate change. And hours after being sworn in, President Biden declared the climate crisis as his number 2 priority behind COVID-19. More here:

Set your alarm for 6:40/6:45AM Wednesday morning, it will be cold but skies are looking clear to catch this rare lunar trifecta:
1. 2nd full moon of the month
2. larger looking full moon
3. total lunar eclipse!
Grab the puffy coats and share your pics!
Enjoying some time off in California. First the marine layer and beautiful Pacific Ocean in Malibu now the triple digit dry heat and sunshine in Palm Springs. ๐๐ต
Why the booโs for Harper? Get over it, he rightfully moved on for much more ๐ต. That being said wearing a Vegas jersey to the Caps playoffs game is still not cool.
Please RT! A serious winter storm warning has been issued for the DC Metro (areas in pink) from 4PM today until 1PM Sunday. A winter weather advisory is in purple. For the metro and areas north 4-8โ ... south 6-10โ. Biggest question is do we get some moderate-heavy snow Sun night
Before grilled cheese and tomato soup tomorrow ... avocado toast at work tonight. Sticking around to update the storm with
@dougkammerer
on News 4 at 11.
Tomorrow will be 80. So why not make๐ฆ? Make it science-y. 1st shake the ice bag w/out๐งthen add๐ง ... notice the diff.๐งlowers the freezing point of ๐ฆ so it makes the๐ก about 20 degrees F. This is why we use๐งon the roads in๐ฅถ.๐งwill prevent ๐ฆ from freezing if the๐กis above 20
On my way to Ocean City, MD with photojournalist
@nleimbach
to cover Dorianโs impact on our local beaches for

at 4, 5 and 6 tonight. Crossing the Bay Bridge now.
Since itโs
#NationalSiblingDay
and my younger brother didnโt answer my nice text wishing him so ... Iโm going to do what any loving older sister would do. Post some adorable photos of him (us) from yesteryear!
Snow is starting to stick to roads. It will be a good idea to avoid travel tonight and tomorrow as we continue to track snow, sometimes falling heavily. Everyone is under a serious winter storm warning (pink) until 6PM Sunday. DC/south 6-10", north 4 to 8"
Howโs your Wednesday? For me itโs back to my normal work schedule but I made time this morning to run some errands and grab a nice tea! Enjoy the sunshine and highs near 50 today.
Weather is not an exact science, we use a grid model to predict a fluid environment. The limitations of weather prediction hugely relate to modeling our very complex atmosphere and computer processing power. Hereโs how we did:
