21 years ago, I sat with a group of new friends (now old friends) in our halls @uniofexter , watching football scores on the “vidiprinter” One caught our eye: A team called Flexsys Cefn Druids (now @CefnDruids ) got thumped, I think 6-0. We knew at once they were our new team

Dear local newspaper journalists - past (like me) and present. We need a book of brilliant/bizarre "walk-in" stories. Working title: "There's someone in reception" (at which point everyone pretends to be working so someone else has to go). Who's got good material? #journorequest

He said we'd be welcome "as long as you don't bring more than 2,000 people" So we hired a minibus and went to a game at Plaskynaston Lane ( @CefnDruids now former home) Here we are on that first trip, each looking about 12 years old

Put some @UniofExeter research into action last night. A herring gull keeps pecking our windows at 5am - but I know they don’t like being watched, so I employed these guys as night watchmen. Gull-free night 😀

It was fun. Too much fun. It became a thing The "Druids Till I Die" competition began. Simple rules: Go every year or you're out We've been going ever since. Two of us are still in the competition but, more importantly, a load of us turn up each year - first at Plaskynaston...

We were hooked on the Druids from the first whistle (see the clip below from 2009 - what's not to love?) More importantly, we've always had the warmest of welcomes there (despite being loud and often very silly)

Journos: ever been sent on a job and pretended to do it? A few reporters in my book recalled times they couldn’t face a death knock or other horrible task I don’t think I ever did this - but I was definitely relieved sometimes to get no answer (so I could leave a note & flee)

The problem with writing a book about walk-ins is that, as soon as it's published, people tell you excellent walk-in tales Today I've heard about a walk-in who claimed he invented the spiral staircase (pretty sure they had those in medieval castles!)

Journalists: talk to me about quotes If you put something in quote marks, it has to be verbatim, right? I've recently done/organised interviews and reporters have "quoted" people when in fact it's the journalist's own summary (for me that should be reported speech) Thoughts?

Combination of lockdown, @GWandShows and my job promoting @UniofExeter climate/enviornment research inspired me to make a #wildlife garden Now it's full of wildlife (need to work on my night-time photography)

I love saving drafts of my novel as a PDF. Immediately looks more finished and grown-up (and less like the plot-hole-infested ramblings of a fool) #writing #writingcommunity

I did a media training lecture yesterday, and opted not to display the latest BBC most-read stories (as I usually do) because it was so grim Headlines still horrifying today - but working for @UniofExeterNews I get to offer a different kind of news (notice the whales 🐳) 1/
