@Femi_Sorry The world can readily see you're right and Francois was wrong. What's less obvious (but no less important) is that Francois doesn't care that you're right and he's wrong, even though he too knows you're right and he's wrong. He is a common or garden variety bullshitter.

@JolyonMaugham This punishes constituents by removing their only representative. It sullies democracy. Rules that prohibit truth telling are (obviously) part of a mechanism which enables unworthy persons (like Johnson) to maintain their stranglehold on democracy. Such rules are unethical.

As I become older, I keep noticing how I used to hold some pretty stupid beliefs. Crucially, the beliefs in question were sincerely held by the younger me, without any hint or suspicion of their lack of soundness and/or validity. Chances are: I currently hold some such beliefs.

The so-called 'pope' is a fucking disgrace to humanity. No surprises there - it goes with the territory - his immediate predecessor protected paedophiles and pederasts and evaded justice. This one thinks Putin should be rewarded for his rape of innocent Ukrainians. Sick.

Okay and here, live from the streets of Edinburgh, perhaps especially for those of you who doubted my tweet from a few days ago, I give you Audrey Innes (possibly the finest piano teacher on the planet) riding a bike uphill in her 87/88th year....

I had a fascinating exchange on Twitter yesterday. My interlocutor insisted upon a 'subjective' conception of moral value and, when I attempted to argue for an 'objective' conception, (s)he took this to signal my belief in the existence of god(s). (I am a staunch antitheist)

Depressing to reflect on the fact that none of this misconduct in public office constitutes 'misconduct in public office'.

I had a vivid 'anxiety' dream last night in which I was walking to a rehearsal of a Tchaikovsky symphony. I was 2nd oboe. And I knew my reeds were not sufficiently prepared. Three former girlfriends chided me from the string section. I escaped on the bus from 'Speed' (1994)

It is of course vitally important to impartially chronicle evidence of any such crimes and I applaud the efforts being made to do so. I do however worry that humanity may be incapable of prescinding from its tribalistic loyalties, sufficiently to facilitate justice in such cases

It amazes me to notice how many people take seriously the idea that moral value is somehow 'subjective'. No plausible justification is ever ventured. It's simply assumed to be the default position. But it's also tendentiously and prejudicially maintained. It is hard to dislodge.
