Is
@laravelphp
the best kept secret in the industry for productivity? I feel like there's a high quality, battle-tested and perfected package for everything.
While we bicker over Next, Remix, Astro, PHP folks just keep shipping lol.
I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Director of Developer Relations at
@sourcegraph
! It's an honor to join a company with the mission of enabling anyone and everyone to write code.
I don't often get a chuckle out of an ad, but this
@PlanetScale
one made me 🤣😂🤣. As a long time RDS user looking for a better offering, PS in my limited experience and use has been a pleasure to use.
@wesbos
Circle of life. New company offers awesome features at little to no cost to build up a customer base, and then slowly starts charging for them over time as they become a large corp. A new company starts up offering those features at little to no cost...and the cycle repeats.
I joined
@sourcegraph
four months ago to lead DevRel (which comprises advocacy, docs, and community). It has been an amazing experience so far and today we shipped
@SourcegraphCody
1.0 and made it generally available.
@flybayer
@PlanetScale
We just did the opposite over the weekend. (Well RDS to Planetscale) and so far we’ve been very happy.
Competing blog post coming. :P
@fireship_dev
This is an absolute game changer. I had to get 2 monitors so I could easily see what ChatGPT replied with and would manually type it into VS Code, but it became too time consuming with just 1 monitor. But this will make me a 10x programmer now!
@shoeboxdnb
This is why every service that has an open-ended usage based billing needs a configurable soft/hard spending limit that shuts service off when the limit is hit.
v0 from
@vercel
has landed. I can't wait to get access myself!
I made a video showing how you can quickly get up to speed with the generated components and add functionality to them with
@SourcegraphCody
.
Check it out here:

I am officially joining the M2 Macbook Pro club! After 2 decades of using Windows PC's as a daily driver, I am completing my transition to everything
@apple
. I've used Macs for work for forever, but never for personal. What are some must have apps/hacks?
GitHub removing code search unless you log in is🧢.
Our powerful code search is available whether you're logged in or not. Simply prepend your code host repo with and you're good to go.

Happy Monday! I am proud to announce a project that the
@digitalocean
DA Team has been working on the last few months: The DigitalOcean Developer Center - a curated experience for devs wishing to learn how to build, grow, & scale using DO.
Check it out -
Did you know that
@SourcegraphCody
is open source? You can check out the repo here:
And if you want to give it a try in
@code
, you can get the extension here:
Cody is your coding BFF.
As you head into your weekend, remember to take time to unwind, but if you are going to hack away on things, bring
@SourcegraphCody
along with you.

In the pre-release version of
@SourcegraphCody
, you can now add Custom Commands that support additional user input.
I built a /tailwind-ui command that allows you to quickly build UI components.
I got a whole landing page up in 3 minutes. 🤯
One of my favorite parts about working in dev rel is collaborating with others to make awesome stuff and help the dev community.
My DMs are open. Let’s do something!
I'm so saddened to hear that a lot of amazing folks at Okta/Auth0 were laid off today. Auth0 was one of my favorite companies to work for.
We at
@sourcegraph
have various positions we're hiring for:
Please feel free to DM if you have any questions. ♥️
One of the things I love most about working for a company that still has that startup culture is the “see something broken, fix it” attitude vs “open a JIRA ticket for INT-DEV-TEAM-17, and they’ll maybe get it on the shortlist backlog in 2027, if priorities don’t change”
Cody VS Code Extension Protip: Do you want to use Cody Chat but find yourself constantly switching between it and the file explorer? You can easily drag the Cody Chat extension to the secondary side bar and have both open at the same time!

@ThePrimeagen
v0 is really cool. I've been using
@SourcegraphCody
for all my design work. Although I prefer Tailwind in all my designs, Cody handles any css framework you throw at it. Here's an example with
@getbootstrap
I just threw together.
@gregisenberg
Step 1: build a product people need
Step 2: boast about not raising funds*
*Step 0: be independently wealthy and have millions to invest in yourself from the get go.
@fireship_dev
Yup! And it's amazing. What I love most about it, is that now you can feed it the docs, and get specific examples. I feel like a lot of libraries don't have a lot of great real world examples. But now, you can have AI generate specific examples on how to do things.
@dabit3
Omg I thought I was losing it trying to build a NextJS 14 app this evening. I felt like I spent 99% of my time in the docs and still just couldn’t find my flow. So glad it’s not just me.
This video is pure gold though.
I was feeling pretty silly getting a MacBook with 96GB of RAM. Like who would ever use that much RAM?
Ollama enters the chat and is like "using this model requires 64gb at a minimum".
I feel so validated.
Just shipped a new
#golang
tutorial on building a web API with Gin and
@MongoDB
. Oh, and we used AI (
@SourcegraphCody
) to speed things up! 🤖
Check it out:
It's been a while since I've been on stage and in-person, but I am super excited to deliver a keynote at
@CEEFrankfurt
on May 11!
I'll be representing
@digitalocean
and talking about "Cloud Computing for Profitable Growth"
See you there!
I just published "The power user's guide to
@SourcegraphCody
for
@Code
".
Check it out to learn how to fully leverage all of Cody's features in VS Code and write more code faster!
Got to give my first talk representing
@Sourcegraph
at
@QConSF
last week and the reviews are in!
93% positive! Certified fresh. 🍅
The talk was about how AI is revolutionizing software development.
Are you at
@aiDotEngineer
this week? Come say hi at the
@Sourcegraph
booth (G5).
This conference is going to be so packed with goodies - can't wait to see, talk, and learn from the best.
I am so excited to be speaking at
@QConSF
next week! My talk is titled "Coding With Cody: How AI Is Revolutionizing Software Development" and we'll be doing a lot of live coding!!! If you're going to QCon SF stop by and say hi! We'll also have a booth with some great giveaways!
My wife is amazing at so many things. Business, writing, creating content, reminding me to drink water, and now she's ready for her next adventure: learning to code! 🤖
Let's go!
Made some setup changes over the weekend. The 16” MacBook screen looks so tiny in comparison to the behemoths but it’ll have to do for now. Nothing beats Apple color accuracy.
Hey
@PlanetScale
, if you ever release a tool that imports Postgres to MySQL, I will literally give you so much money. (So sick of being stuck on AWS RDS, but tooling to convert Postgres -> MySql -> Planetscale doesn't exist afaik)
@swyx
@OpenAI
I wonder if they're announcing this ahead of Gemini release to continue to dominate the mindshare of AI tools.
I feel like nobody really talks about Bard or any of Google's AI tools, even if some of them are really good.
Staying hydrated is so important. My preferred order:
1) coffee (developer fuel)
2) energy drink (afternoon pick me up)
3) water (ew but legally required to mention it or
@MeganGrant333
will yell at me)
What’s your hydration station look like?

As a developer, one of the most difficult and time consuming things is quickly getting context of a file, especially if you didn't write it.
@SourcegraphCody
makes it painless with the Explain command.
👉Give Cody a try for free at
.
@SourcegraphCody
continues to amaze me more and more each day. It solves coding problems for me even with the most half-baked instructions I give it. I just start a thought or write a comment, and Cody does the rest. It's seriously my second coding brain at this point.
The files are inside the computer!!!
Seriously, what we're going to do is set up a live stream where Megan can just ask questions about programming. We may or may not be drunk while doing it.
Today, I learned what a repo is. I also spent time in VS Code & cried once.
I then learned why developers get paid so much.
Additionally, I learned that in trying to build a "simple web app," I skipped ~5,295 steps.
If you need me, I'll be in
@Codecademy
for the next decade.
It’s confirmed. Klaus is a Siberian Husky. With 2.2% wolf, and ~2% German Shepard and ~2% Alaskan malamute genes. He also has the gene that makes him a large breed husky. 11/10
Has anyone actually used a CustomGPT and had a better experience than the default GPT-4 chat?
I feel like 99% of Custom GPT instructions are "You are a {niche} chat agent, only answer questions about {niche}" with no additional value add whatsoever.
One of the most common questions I get when talking about
@SourcegraphCody
is "where do I add my LLM API Key."
🥁🥁🥁
You don't! Cody is free to use (we do have rate limits). Just install it. Log in to your SG account. And code!

I think this is the deal breaker for me for Apple Vision Pro Gen 1.
Small FOV that makes it look like you're looking through binoculars or a window at all times. This has never been comfortable long term on any VR headset I've used.
Saw this YouTube video thumbnail today. Honestly like 95% of becoming good at anything whether it's lifting, coding, or writing is just doing it the way you know how and improving as you learn.
Premature optimization is the death of progress, so just do it!
I think I'm an ok dev. Def not a 10x hardcore ninja or whatever the kids call themselves these days but somewhere in the realm of 1.5x - 1.7x. I just threw some of my code into ChatGPT 4 and asked if it could optimize it. Now I feel like a 0.1x programmer.
An annoying thing I often run into when onboarding to a codebase is finding who to talk to about code changes. Luckily
@sourcegraph
Code Search makes it so easy find the ✨right ✨person to reach out to.
I made a video about it 👇
I am in the process of re-arranging my office. I bought a 35ft wired ethernet cable, but didn't account for the height of the desk in my measurements. So now I gotta redo the whole thing again. New office will be so slick though. Stay tuned.
Spent the evening hacking away using
@vercel
AI SDK and
@AnthropicAI
. I may have stumbled upon something crazy that would 5x
@videotap__
AI capabilities and solve so many of our issues. 👀
I’ve had my Klaus now for close to a decade. When I got him I was told he was a husky but he’s always been a non traditional husky, so let’s see what he really is.
Is it just me or has Amazon's delivery dates become more of a suggestion than a real committed to date. I feel like over the last year, at least 1/3 if not more items purchased from Amazon have been delivered late, damaged, or otherwise had issues.
@ken_wheeler
Lmao. I built a nextjs 14 app this evening and was struggling so hard. Next auth was a mess, dev ex has def gotten bad. So glad it’s not just me
