What's special about Bitcoin is that you get to build the world as you want it to be 🏗️
What previously fell to an elite group of politicians and bankers is now in the hands of a bunch of nerds and plebs 🤓
Developers, designers, devoted hodlers, some options to get involved 👇

Not another lightning implementation ... actually!
This is LNDK:
It is a standalone daemon that allows your LND node to forward onion messages 🧅
Built using
@lightningdevkit
, with the goal of providing LND users with
#bolt12
support (2 weeks ™️).
SimLN is a tool for simulating active lightning networks in any test environment: regtest or signet, local or cloud!
Its goal is to allow LN app and protocol devs to test code in more realistic environments.
BYON(etwork) and let SimLN do the rest ⚡

While bullish for Bitcoin, it’s heartbreaking to see this development in Zimbabwe’s currency crisis. Lives and livelihoods put at risk by an inept government scrambling for control.
It’s so important to remember, these aren’t theoretical problems we are solving.
There is no better way to onboard as a Bitcoin or Lightning developer than the
@ChaincodeLabs
residency. I don’t know enough adjectives to do justice to the incredible, well planned, thorough program. There is nothing like it. It is the Bitcoin of residencies.
Passionate about making lightning accessible to the masses? ⚡️🌍
We’re looking for a frontend developer to help build human-centered UI for our products. 🔨

I’m working on bolt 12 for LND. There’s agreement from LL to add route blinding and the new invoice format, but not onion messages or offers.
Full B12 support will require running a separate binary that manages onion messages + the actual offers flow.
@ all bitcoin companies !
@QalaAfrica
wants to do the work of finding, upskilling and matching promising African developers with Bitcoin companies 👯
If you want to focus on building rather than (boring, exhausting) hiring, let us know what you're looking for!
Who is interested in hiring pre-vetted interns/junior devs w/ a strong background in Bitcoin philosophy and Bitcoin/LN foundations? The
@QalaAfrica
curriculum is designed to train the skills that are most in-demand. If you are hiring jr devs, we'd want to learn about your needs.
Why use LDK?
@lightningdevkit
allows you to combine LN features in whatever ungodly arrangement you like!
It's difficult to understand the value of a library like this until you use it - I didn't.
Rigorously reviewed, performant LN lego makes 10x devs out of us all ❤️🔥
@squink20
@RyanTheGentry
All LN implementations use djikstra’s algorithm to find a route, starting at the destination node and working backwards.
The fee and time lock per edge are considered to be “costs”, which the node takes into account when trying to choose the cheapest edge.
The fact is that Africa by virtue of a lot of adversity has individuals who are instilled with survival instinct and resilience from their day to day.
To have more Africans in
#Bitcoin
is to build for resilience long term.

LND’s payments database grows quickly because it stores all failed HTLC attempts + onion blobs. That info is interesting, but perhaps not worth the cost at scale. No major engineering mishap, just a decision that was right in the past but not the present.
Why should you run it?
LND node operators running LNDK improve the anonymity set for

Is there a plan for *native* offers support in LND? No.
Is LND adding route blinding, making anon set/ usability better for everyone? Yes.
Are they adding onion msg forwarding, which helps other impls upgrade to offers? No.
Is there nuance that twitter misses? Absolutely.
