Extremely dangerous rip currents and heavy surf along south shore today. Double red flags. No Swimming! Please go to the Northshore to swim. No pool toys on the Northshore because of strong off shore winds.

We had had another report of sharks along the south shore around 1:30 and we are opening the beaches back up at 2:30. Please exercise extreme caution if visiting the south shore today.

Our office is closely monitoring Ernesto which we expect to bring high surf and extremely strong rip currents beginning Friday and lasting through the weekend. We anticipate flying double red flags and closing the water to swimming on the South Shore.
South shore beaches will be closed for the next 2 hours due to a confirmed shark fin sighting. It was spotted at Nobadeer headed west towards Madaket beach.
