As of 3:45 pm our men and women in uniform have worked 84 traffic accidents. Thank you for your dedication and service to this community! We also want to thank the men and women of our central communication division who have also worked tirelessly answering those calls.
A great note of thanks from the Chicago Bears to Officer Marcus McQuien and the entire ACCPD team for recovering Roquan Smith’s Georgia gear. Officer McQuien lifted fingerprints from Smith’s vehicle which helped recover the stolen property.
Detectives from our Property Crime Unit were able to identify a suspect from the entering auto reported by former UGA linebacker Roquan Smith. Fingerprints recovered at the scene led detectives to the suspect and some of the stolen property was recovered at his residence.

70 local children shopped for their family members and themselves during our Shop with a Cop program. Officers from the ACCPD, and other local agencies were paired with children and taken to Target to shop. A special thanks to Athens Transit for transporting the group.

Officer Justin King with the Davenport Police Department, Iowa, was shot on Monday in the line of duty. Officer King is the cousin of our own Officer Erik Ellison. Please keep Officer King, and his family in your prayers and thoughts.

There is not an active shooter incident in Athens-Clarke County. We have been made aware of a rumored active shooter event on Milledge Avenue, however this is untrue.
The final numbers are in, and they're one of the lowest we've seen since unification. Part 1 crimes are down with a noticeable decrease in burglaries, thanks to the men and women of the ACCPD who work hard to keep us safe.
Chief Scott Freeman has appointed William Hood, with more than 28 years of law enforcement experience, to command the Uniform Patrol Division. Hood grew up in Athens, attending Clarke Central High School and graduating from Cedar Shoals High School.
THIS RIGHT HERE! Let’s give it up for young Brook. As part of a school project titled “Difference Makers,” Brook made twenty “I care blessing bags” for officers to distribute to the homeless. Brook dropped the bags off at our Fairview substation where officers can pick them up.
We have been made aware of a video that is making its way around social media involving two of our officers. We are reviewing the facts around this incident and will be publicly addressing the issue tomorrow.

Rest In Peace - - Richard Odum, who served with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department for over 24 years, passed away yesterday after a courageous and long battle with COVID-19.

College Station Road at North Oconee Access, just up from Riverbend are being shut down due to ice. One of our officers and another person were struck by a vehicle in this area. Our officer is ok and the other person is being transported to the hospital for a leg injury

We know it's April 1st. It is NEVER acceptable to use our 911 Center or the Police Department to carry out any pranks. We just received a fake burglary in progress call that said residents were trapped inside. For the record-this is abuse of 911 or reckless conduct or worse.
