In 2021 I cashed out 340k profits from trading but then I lost about 320k at the beginning of 2022 in January when the markets tanked. Now for some reason my tax return says I owe 65k but how’s that possible when I lost almost everything? Doesn’t make sense.

If you’ve been short the market during 2023 then you’ve been what I call “macro’d”. Most new traders get macro’d at some point early in their trading journey. I was macro’d hard in 2014-2016 when I began trading. It’s hard to recover from getting macro’d. Some never recover.
