Erdogan says they will soon invade Tal Rifaat and Manbij areas in northwest Syria.
- Tal Rifaat area is where many Kurds who fled Afrin following the Turkish invasion in 2018 live.
- Manbij is a densely populated area where 500-1000 YPG fighters died to liberate from ISIS.
Ironically, Turkey has been methodically targeting the critical infrastructure in the Kurdish-led northeastern Syria - within days it has pounded over 150 sites, including power facilities, water treatment plants, energy hubs, oil fields, dams, and other essential infrastructure.

For the first time, at least since the Crusades in 1095, Kurds are minority in Afrin.
In the 3rd anniversary of Turkish full control Afrin, here is how its demography changed:
Kurds before 2018: 90+%
Kurds now: 30-35% (300,000)
Arabs before 2018: 5%
Arabs now: 65+% (460,000)

Turkish military has started a new cross-border military operation dubbed ‘Claw-Lock’ against the PKK in Iraqi Kurdistan; last night, Turkish airborne commandos and special forces were dropped in some PKK heartland, clashes have equipped in several areas.

At least 10,000 students across Iraqi Kurdistan take part in a competition to memorise 40 Hadiths of prophet Muhammed; the competition is organised by the youth young of an Islamic party.
This is just not true.
It took Turkey 65 days to capture Afrin which is 1,840 km2 while Taliban has captured most of Afghanistan which is 652,860 km² in mere 10 days.
The Afghan army is far better equipped than Taliban while YPG has to fight vs NATO's second-largest military.
"BBC Verify reviewed all 280 videos posted to the IDF YouTube channel from 7 October up to 27 February and found that very few contained visual evidence of fighters being killed."

According to CPT, since the operations begun 40 days ago, 21 villages have been emptied and 4 civilians injured but no civilian deaths so far.
I wonder if Macron knows that 99% of the Iraqi Kurdish peshmarga who fought ISIS were actually men.
Unfortunately, the female peshmergas are only used for PR and it only started following the western media coverage of 'Kurdish female fighters' who are actually YPG and PKK.

PKK says the Turkish military has used chemical weapons 323 times against the group in Iraqi Kurdistan in the last six months which has resulted in the death of 33 PKK guerillas.
The group has been calling for an investigation into the use of chemical weapons for a while now.
One way to understand Turkey's conflict with the PKK is through such travel advisories: If you compare these two maps of the UK's travel advice for Turkey from 2019 and 2023, you will understand how much the conflict has now essentially moved outside the Turkish border.
The only way to conclude that all men in this bar graph are fighter of Hamas is to assume that all men in Gaza including elderly are Hamas militants - and challenge every model of statistical methodology - while in reality they account for less than 2% of Gaza’s population:

What makes PKK unique - & unprecedented danger in the eye of Turkish state - is that it’s the 1st an-all Kurdish rebellion in the history of Turkish Republic that represents all the 3 key segments of TR’s Kurdish society: kurmanji, Zaza & Alevi.
That wasn’t the case in 1925-38.

The ISIS prison break attempt was only expected as over 5000 ISIS militants are held by SDF - a non-state actor with very limited resources.
Europeans have been refusing to take back militants who hold their passports - with ‘friends’ like the ‘west’, one doesn’t need enemies.
The Iraqi Kurdish peshmarga structure is actually quite tribal and patriarchal.
And this is very unfair to the YPG and PKK who are truly giving women an almost equal role, unrivalled in most of the world.
Turkish intelligence MIT claims to have killed Berfin Nurhak, one of the most senior female PKK commanders in Gara mountains in Iraqi Kurdistan; Nurhak was one of the PKK commanders who helped rescue the Yazidis in Sinjar during the ISIS onslaught in 2014.

There is only one article, as far as I can tell, about KDP-PKK dynamics in the mainstream US media and it is full of inaccurate and very biased reporting that makes it hard to take anything they say re: Kurds seriously. I will spell it some of them:

Salwan Momika, the man who burned the Quran in Sweden, has an intriguing past. He founded the 'Hawks Syriac Forces', an armed militia, in 2014 and allied closely with the pro-Iran Christian militia 'Babylon Birgades' which is closely funded & allied with the IRGC-backed groups.

Not very promising.

Amid talks of a fresh Turkish military offensive in N Syria: This is a good, detailed map of the foreign military bases in Syria. The US has 33 bases/posts, mostly in Hasaka (19) and Deir ez-Zor (10).

If Turkey has indeed managed to extract all these things from Sweden and Finland, this is not only a major win for Erdogan but reaffirms the argument that 1. Erdogan really knows how to play the West and 2. manoeuvre between the Great Powers.
Here are the things Turkey got:
• Sweden/Finland will lift its arms embargo
• Both will support Turkey on PKK, stop support to YPG
• They will amend their laws on terrorism
• They will share Intel with each other
• They will extradite terror suspects 1/
Some background:
This can be in connection to any or all of the following:
- Iran nuclear negotiations
- Barzani’s alliance with Sadr, excluding pro-Iran groups
- Kurdistan president Barzani met Erdogan (& Qatar FM) today for the second time in a month, so KRG oil and gas.
If the invasion happens, it will likely only concentrate on Tal Rifaat for now but the issue is: even if you cede territory, it is highly unlikely that Turkey will give up wanting more as we have seen before - this type of gradual expansion is the most dangerous.
This happened in October 2014, just two days after ISIS beheaded three YPJ female fighters and just a month after thousands of Yazidi women were enslaved by ISIS.
Arin was 20, a native of Afrin and mother of two.
The level of support for the Taliban in the Iraqi Kurdish Facebook (the main social media platform) is alarming and it is mostly the reaction to what people perceive to be a similarly corruption government of KRG.
Why Iraqi Kurds are migrating?
A key reason is a total collapse of trust in the region’s institutions from judiciary to healthcare to education; there is a complete collapse of trust in KRG and it is capability to build a better future for its citizens. (Hope is a keyword here.)
At least five KDP Peshmarga have died and two injured in a PKK ambush in Matina mountain as KDP has sent large reinforcements to the Matina region in Amedi in Iraqi Kurdistan.
I doubt there is any other Kurdish group in history that has done more to destroy Kurdish people’s aspirations (particularly of Kurds in Iraq) than the Barzani-Talabani family duo; the harm they have infected to the idea of Kurdistan is irreversible in the foreseeable future.
A mob of 300 attack Kurdish seasonal agricultural workers in a village in Turkey's Antalya: "Our boss's nose and ribs were broken. They told us to leave the village because we are Kurdish"
