GO TO NATIONAL CONFERENCES AND MAKE CONNECTIONS! The connections I made at @SNMA AMEC 2023 opened so many doors. Literally was denied this sub-I last week b/c the dates I wanted weren’t available. So I reached out to one of the docs I met at AMEC and she came through for me 🙌🏾

I just finished writing my personal statement for #ERAS2024 and feel like weights have been lifted off me. This was undoubtedly the most intimidating part of my whole application, but I’m super proud of how it came together. 😊

Haydar is one example of how resilient and determined IMGs are. Super proud of all the IMGs who are/have gone through transitioning into the U.S. medical system. You worked hard to become a Doctor and that will never be taken away from you.

I asked why he was now studying for Step 1 again, he replied “I have a daughter who just started college, I want to set a good example for her”. 10 years after his last attempt at Step 1, he’s back in the library.

Haydar is an IMG who switched to software engineering after several attempts at passing Step 1. He successfully completed Step 2 CK and CS but Step 1 was what kept him from applying to a U.S. residency program.

My PCP who it took me monthsss to find just told me that she’ll be leaving the clinic to be a full time faculty at the local med school. Tried to convince her not to leave me and she replied “I need to leave to create more doctors like us” 🥺
