When my car was written off in October last year, I had two cars waiting for me outside my gate to take me to work 🤣 when I wasn’t paid for 5 months, a friend gave me R10k and another gave me R20k and told me to return R10k only… I don’t know but my friends carry me… always ❤️

Because the kids who mostly need that attention are the ones who are disruptive and they never want to learn. The smart kids on the other hand listen. When you organize extra classes, the smart ones will come but those who actually need help are nowhere to be found.

I’ve taught at an Independent School, I’ve taught at a former Model C school and now I am a teacher in Township school. In the first two schools, it was easy to call the parents and they would attend to you.(Some were mean)

I came back to this because I just got marksheets and this said child obtained 66% in her exams… from a 41% in term 2…. And yes I called her parents 😌 nna ga re bolele fela Palesa re a ruta!!!

Policy makers never take township schools into consideration. But we make it work! Despite all the obstacles we face but we make it work and shape the future of a black child, lack of parental support and resources and we are judged like the rest.

We are overwhelmed and overworked but we have to make it work for as long as we are there, it’s not that Township teachers don’t care, they do. But the love is slowly killed by external factors. We do love being teachers, we want to teach, we want to impact!

1/2.Teachers new in the field, remember the SACE code of Conduct? You are not allowed to date any learner in the republic. You will lose your license to practice and your future will end before it begins. Learners are off limits!! And yes, some might be a year, younger than

We don’t have funds to higher extra teachers, you work with what government has provided you. Some DH(HODs) have the same alocation as Post Level 1 Educators. We don’t have the luxury of doing certain things “by the book” it’s a quick fix thing.

Hoerskool Menlopark and Vukane Mawethu Secondary are expected to produce the same results. Policies will most likely favor the former other than the latter… Hoerskool Overkruin and Soshanguve High are placed on the same pedestal as well…

I don’t tweet of something that I don’t experience. I have taught in 3 totally different schools. Where parents pay money and where they don’t. Taught kids with and without parental support. In schools we have SBST that assists in cases that are way too complex.

But dare mention it to parents? They will tell you where to get off. It’s only few cases that are actually successful and learners are eventually transferred or get the help they need.

There are leaners who show up and are never disruptive, but they just can’t get to do average or above average, as a teacher I do intervene and if it’s a complicated issue I refer the Case to SBST or Deputy Principal. Sometimes the learners needs to be in a special school

2/2 you or be same age as you 💀 You are still seen as a parent and you should act as such. Even if they shela you, please decline and keep it moving, don’t even create room for them to pursue you further. They are you children, infact call them “Ngwanaka” or “Mntanam”
