Also remember he was a weapons bearer/retainer for Oda Nobunaga. It wouldn't make sense to have a weapons bearer/retainer that isn't a warrior.

Having a pause button in that game never once affected the difficulty of it. It wont affect the difficulty in any of the souls games either if it was added.
