A reminder that Elsevier has profit margins that outstrip those made by Apple, Google and Amazon. Revenue is reported at almost 3b, and profit margins ~40%. Yet we send them our work, for free. We peer review, for free, and editors collate it, for free or for a small stipend.

During my Master's, my supervisor told me I looked like a thug for having earrings/diamond studs & that it was unprofessional (in class too). I never wore them again after. I also stopped wearing caps. I wanted to fit into a scientific community. Now I'd rather challenge it.
