As Ulugh Khan entered Sriranga, thousands of Shri Vaishnavas stood in his way to the temple. An estimated 15000 Vaishnavas laid down their lives protecting their lord. Ulugh Khan is enraged to find the temple empty, and orders the idol and tresures to be traced immediately.

1323 CE: Ulugh Khan attacked Srirangam. When the priests heard the news of him approaching, they immediately took the idol of Ranganatha and jewels on a palanquin and left on foot. Back at the temple, the remaining priests closed the sanctum with bricks.

In 1971, Kumara Kampana and Gopanna attack the Madurai Sultanate, destroying the sultans. In the same year Ranganatha swamy is brought back by Gopanna to Srirangam. He is lauded and celebrated by the people of Srirangam.
