Just loud guitars is not shoegaze. Too many artists fall into that trap. Just as important as the loud guitars is the atmosphere they create. Shoegaze, for me, is as much about aesthetic as sound. And there has to be a song inside the noise with melody, song structure & dynamics

So true. There have been bands that I thought would be boring live but were fantastic (Air, Wannadies, Spiritualized) and bands I couldn’t wait to see live that were ok. In videos so much can be faked. You really see the soul of a band live. Electronic, rock, ambient, punk…

From the videos I’ve seen the balance between the guitars was great distinct but balanced. The bass’s volume could have been increased. But like you said, there are many variables to how things sound on a video recording.
