A lot of people complain about the clunky tab targetting FFXIV has, especially in PvP. Did you know you can change it? This setting only targets enemies in the direction you are looking, prioritising those closest and then those closest to the middle of the screen.

I've seen people saying Paladin sucks because its damage is unreasonably low compared to the other tanks. I'm loving how it plays. Low DPS is easier to fix than bad design, and the design is good. I say relax and wait for the balancing patch.

Let me put into perspective how bad a 10% difference in DPS is. Over the course of a 10 minute fight, a DRK could AFK for an entire minute while doing mechanics and still pull comparable DPS to a full uptime PLD. There's a certain disparity which comfort on a job cannot overcome.

Here's a spectrogram showing that there was a high frequency sound being played at 14kHz up to around 18kHz during Centerstage and Outerstage Combo in Honey B's fight. The latest patch removed it, so if you had people telling you there was no sound, you weren't crazy.

When asked why Ley Lines was still going to be on 90s going into EW, Yoshi P responded with the reasoning of why both 60s and 120s were bad for the balance of the job, and it made a lot of sense. Then they turned around and made it 120s anyway. Food for thought.

FYI, both my first UCoB and UWU groups failed. I got UWU done first with the help of @ArtharsFF14 , and then UCoB with 2-3 helpers. There is absolutely no shame in your clears getting some help, be it a lot or a little. The all 8 fresh groups are extremely rare.

A single job can have a DPS swing of close to +-5% from one pull to the next. If the entire party has a bad crit RNG run, you hit enrage. After doing all the mechanics perfectly and executing your rotation perfectly, beating enrage is down to a dice roll.

P8S part 2 is especially egregious due to there being a single 2 minute buff window with DOUBLE DAMAGE. If you don't get lucky crits during this window, it can completely negate all optimisation effort you did in the first 60% of the fight.

In previous expansions, we had job burst on 60s, 90s, 120s and 180s. When used on cooldown, these naturally aligned on opener, and again at 6 minutes.

That means if an enrage is tough, there is room for a group to improve in order to meet the DPS check. When everyone's burst is aligned to 2 minutes, and fights are purposefully designed around 2 minute burst, the skill ceiling is lowered and players have nothing to improve.

When melees are doing more damage than ranged, and they're not punished for being a melee (because they get full uptime for absolute free), there's no point to bringing triple ranged, and no room to optimise uptime.

This problem is compounded by said burst also being extremely high potency relative to past expansions. Every expansion we get higher and higher potency single-use abilities where if you don't crit, you lose a huge chunk of DPS.

Speaking of which, GIANT HITBOXES are another part of the same problem. During prog, melees have to play safe. You can balance around expected lost GCDs. As they optimise, they can find extra damage to make the DPS check easier.

Most raiders learn plenty of complex mechanics without the help of third party tools, but stop short of learning Just One More Mechanic just because a tool exists that trivialises it. People can learn to do without just fine, they just don't try.
