All donations will be given to workers to supplement lost wages or directly into our effort to get them to reopen and give us our jobs back. We appreciate anything people can give to help our cause

After three long weeks, we have an election date! We will be voting by mail-in ballot, and the votes will be counted June 10th. Thanks again to all of you for supporting our cause!

UPDATE: Wydown ownership has chosen not to recognize our union voluntarily. We have filed an election petition with the National Labor Relations Board, and look forward to working with management on arranging the upcoming vote.

Now that we have an election settled, let's talk issues. Wydown ownership evidently has the money to pay for "union avoidance" lawyers — a fee which is often upwards of $300 an hour. But how much do they pay the people who make their business possible?

Our customers love our coffee, but they don’t like our union busting owners! Huge thank you from us to everyone who has left a review so far 😉

Since the time the doors were shut for good, this community has been so incredible and has shown us such unwavering support. We want to thank all of our customers, regulars, and allies who have rallied along side us during this difficult time. (1/2)

Wydown management has demonstrated a consistent pattern of disregard for the concerns we have brought to their attention in recent months. [2/8]

It is clear that our leaders are not motivated by concern for the people who make their company possible. We are entitled to better wages, a safer work environment, and to be treated with dignity and respect. [8/8]

We try our best to maintain a high quality of service, but we are consistently short staffed and left without the supplies and tools we need to do our jobs. [3/8]

Workers at the Apollo location were recently subjected to overt, ongoing verbal abuse at the hands of our General Manager. It took weeks for this situation to be acknowledged by ownership, and longer still for them to take action. [4/8]

Although this particular manager has now been removed from his position, we are still experiencing the effects of mismanagement: We are understaffed and overworked, with many staff members being asked to stay late or close against our stated wishes andscheduled shifts. [5/8]

At both stores, we see a lack of urgency in maintenance. Management has consistently dismissed our concerns regarding machines breaking down mid-shift, drains clogging and sewage flooding the floor, recurring lapses in stock, growing pest problems and structural failures. [6/8]

There is no reason to do this other than to undermine our solidarity. Let there be no mistake: Wydown ownership is opposed to the union effort and is making every effort to make it go away.

Ownership has also insisted that our stores (14th St and Apollo) vote as separate units. Our stores are not separate: our menus are identical, and employees at each store sometimes cover shifts at the other store. And, importantly, we share a boss. Our struggle is the same.

NEW: Blue Bottle workers told us they make $3,500 worth of lattes in a day, but take home just $144. They can barely afford to make ends meet while Nestle—Blue Bottle’s owner—rakes in hundreds of billions a year. Baristas across Boston are unionizing to demand their fair share.

If ownership does not agree to terms for an election by next week, the NLRB will have to mediate for us — a process that could delay the election by around a month.

Wydown ownership has hired the law firm Husch Blackwell. They have some shining endorsements on their website — like from Conagra Brands, who called them a “uniquely effective litigation partner.”(2/5)

These lawyers have spent the past two weeks nitpicking every possible aspect of the proposed election agreement. Their most recent scheme: introducing language in the agreement which could let the company remove workers from the voting pool at will. (3/5)
