Wait. You guys. Hold on. If the Blue Lives Matter people aren't up in arms supporting Capitol Police, maybe supporting police wasn't what that whole thing was about? But if that's the case, what else could it have been? I can't even imagine.

"Palm Springs" won an independent spirit award for screenwriting. A friend of mine who's a veteran pro reader passed on it for his bosses. He's a smart guy, he said he just didn't feel it when he read it. So, you know, take your rejections in stride.

When I was a writers room assistant, I ran a workshop for others who were also in those jobs. The goal was to find writers ready for staff and boost them. So I know A LOT of people who are or were in those jobs. Here are ten thoughts on #IASolidarity #PayUpHollywood #IALivingWage

People seem mystified by why Hannity and Co would think playing these personal messages between Joe and Hunter would hurt Joe politically. But hurting him politically isn't the point. They're trying to hurt him emotionally and trigger a relapse in Hunter. Then it all makes sense.

Just heard from a WA that her boss, after seeing the #IASolidarity #PayUpHollywood #IALivingWage threads, asked if the studio was paying less than 1k weekly. WA is making 600. Showrunner is now demanding studio pay living wage and paying the diff until the studio does. 👏👏👏

The Nicholl Twitter Cycle is full of stories about scripts that got rejected elsewhere but placed in Nicholl or were rejected by Nicholl and succeeded elsewhere. Really puts the lie to the idea of an "undeniable" script. The only thing that's truly undeniable is perseverance.

1) The deleterious effects of these low wages cannot be overstated. The most obvious impact is that people who don't come from means usually can't take these jobs at all, and if they do, they often need 2-3 other jobs to stay afloat. Doesn't leave much time to write. Or live.

9) One easy thing the Guild could do to improve the situation is lower the number of episodes needed to trigger a mandatory freelance from 13 to 10 or even 8. The freelance rule was created to give new people a chance but is useless in an era when few shows get 13 episode orders.

11) IMO, we should transition away from SCs being a pre-writer job. Copy editors at newspapers aren't angling to be journalists; they're understood and respected AND PAID as their own vital profession. But for now, read your SCs. So many great writers there.

@dianaberrent Covid is less dangerous to kids than the flu. Go about your life. Even if the kids get it, they'll be fine.

I've set up a staffing database for TV assistants who are ready to staff and lost agents in WGA/ATA split. Can expand to other categories if there is demand. Gathering writer info and will send to showrunners Friday. Submit now at #WGAStaffingBoost

@adlow76 Not really. These movies are excellent but backward-looking nostalgia pieces, unlike his hits. If the OG WSS had come out in 1961 with music from 1900, it never would have been a Boomer mega-hit. And Marvel movies have more in common with peak Spielberg than "The Fabelmans".

@mattyglesias I always reply to these folks saying, "In the long run, Germany was fine. And it was! Just a question of how many dead bodies you're okay with along the way."

@laurenrayesnow In Camden, they actually fired the whole police department and rehired with people almost exclusively from the community, with some of the most progressive training out there. Many thought crime would surge, but it didn't. That's why the Camden protests look the way they do.
