Thread 1/ 30yrs ago 1st May 93, I was a Coy Cmdr with 2 Inf Coys under my comd. Deployed to a besieged Pietermaritzburg to bring peace to a troubled city. Within days my Jocks chased the ANC with tails between their legs, out of PMB, bringing much needed relief to the city.

I live in a modest house by anyone’s standards built 2003. I love my home, proud my family has a better home than anything I had growing up, or as an adult before this house. When we bought this house Council Tax was £2,560.98, received today £3,686.28 🤬 How’s this justified?

There are a number of reasons we used to train our machine gunners to fire in short bursts of three rounds at a time. Accuracy of fire is one, not melting your barrel is another. Below might be fun on the training ground, but useless as a fire support weapon in a fight. 🤣

Raised in war ravaged Rhodesia, moved to SA, conscripted in their army, the week I turned 19 I had my 1st contact with SWAPO terrorists. At 21 I was fighting FAPLA & Cubans. Moved to England 22yrs ago, despite global conflict, life here peaceful. Conflict feels inevitable again.

I believe it is unsustainable to pay unemployment benefits to the able-bodied for years & years. In SA you could get 6-mnths unemployment at a 45% rate of your last salary. You'd need to work for 12-mnths before being eligible again. Life is tough, sort yourself out.

A huge thank you to everyone who has wished me well this morning.. I’m at my local hospital which is a specialist cardiology unit, waiting for an angiogram. My BP has improved considerably overnight (meds) and I’m starting to feel normal. 22yrs in UK, first hospital stay. BYDAND
