Starfield sandwich and cities skylines teeth melted people's brain to the point where they just dogpile on (obviously beginner) artists because they saw a dense wireframe.
The player physics is (vaguely) based on Quake/HL, so out of curiosity I've downloaded a random surf map and dropped it into the game and... It Just Works.
Obviously could use some tweaks, but I'm honestly surprised it worked this well out of the box.
Imagine you're an art critic and you say "This painting looks dated, the quality suffers because the artist used their old trusty paintbrush. I think they should buy a new paintbrush, which will immediately make the painting more flashy and colorful" with a serious face.
Prototyping some potential enemy attacks.
Also, made lean animations was more exaggerated. Another pass or two and I'll reach SSX levels of leaning into turns.
It's

, yay!
I'm almost finished with the victory screen. Just need something fancy for a background and a some formating here and there.
Also, you can see a bit of new HUD system I was working on for so long.

Realized I still have two color channels left, so I can flex and use an extra density map to add light inscatter pass for when sun is right behind a cloud.
I've got my steam account 12 years ago. And if someone told me back then that one day my own game will be on steam, I would have never believed it.
But hey, here it is!

To get a wide lense effect I've made an absolutely cur(s/v)ed geometry and commited multiple perspective crimes.
On top of this, geometry warps with camera angle to slightly amplify the effect.
Something new for this

After
@Fat_Bard
sent me first demo for this track, I knew I have to make an opening cutscene for Jet Lancer.

BTW you can wishlist the game here if you haven't yet:
Haven't started with real AI yet but thrown together a ghost/replay system.
Planning to use it for race type events to better visualize bronze/silver/gold times and some other mission types where pre-set paths are required.

I'm so happy I'm finally able to show you what I've been really working on for last 6 months. β¨β¨
But in the meantime, don't forget to add the game to your wishlist on steam π

Working on new victory screen layout. Now it gives you much more useful info so it's easier to optimise your playstyle to get those juicy ACE-ranks.

Hello

Here's some raw footage from one of late-game missions. If you were wondering how hard
@JetLancerGame
can get, well, it gets to "missile warning system just won't shut up" level of hard.

Never thought I'll do a "wow this tweet blew up" thing, but hey, go check out our previous game, there's plenty of clouds there too:
You can get a cool game and we will be able to eat food while working on this unannounced thing, with even BIGGER clouds
After huting down one of the bosses and salvaging it's engines, you'll get access to aircraft carrier upgrade, turning your ship into hovercraft that can travel on land.

Wanted to test something in substance designer, ended up with this instead.
Good news is, that "something" seems to be working fine.

Best way to implement attract mode: pick most advanced AI the game has, slap player skin on it and make it play the game.
Looks pretty convincing imo

FT-47 "Lance" is a cancelled 6th gen fighter prototype deemed too dangerous for pilots due to overwhelming G-forces
Our crew bought it at a black market and added a set of limiters... but limits are meant to be broken!

Wishlist it here:

There's a whole new GaMeR trend of posting meshes with "bad" topology from unoptimized games. People wo never even seen a 3D model outside a video game before now think "many polygons = bad".
Found tiny cute prototype in my abandoned folder
I made it a while ago just to practice animation and get back into coding when I decided I want to work on my plane game solo. The idea was "How many gameplay mechanics you can squeeze out of bo staff?"

@TMS_Stoneaxe
Someone on 4chan mangled starfield's sandwich topology as a joke, people saw it and assumed "starfield runs bad because of fake sandwich topo". C:S2 human models have fully modeled teeth, which may or may not impact performance.
I must say thanks to whoever suggested making proxy charge weapon intro 3-projectile shot. Now you can either use it as close-range high-spread "shotgun" or cover huge area using it's ballistic trajectory.

Still thinking about the fact that marketers managed to bamboozle gamers into believeing that 4K is four times higher in resolution than 1080p, while in realisty they just decided to switch measurment from height to width to make the number sound bigger.
Almost finished with new key art that'll be easier to fit into all those 8365784 aspect ratios every digital store requires you to provide.

Fun fact: your jet in
@JetLancerGame
is canonically 16 meters long. If you convert in-game pixels/frame movement to actual speed, you'll get top speed of around 1240 km/h. Which means you can actually reach Mach 1 and break sound barrier.
That's some high-speed gameplay for you.

Okay just wanna say that I don't have anything against original tweet's author. We're all humans and can make mistakes. I've made this screenshot to illustrate how the whole gamedev discourse is poisoned by media illiteracy, and it still stands true.
If you were ever wondering what inspired all the mechanical gore in Jet Lancer - it's Area 88 OVA.
35 years later, it still has the juiciest air combat ever animated.
Okay, here's the fun part: whole tileset is procgen parametric math witchcraft made in

There were like a hundreds of replies mocking the person, spilling into their original reddit post. And actual 3d artists posting their half-assed toasters, saying "look how better I am".
Some playtesters found guided rockets to be a bit OP, but guess what? The smarter your gear get, the more vulnerable it becomes for hacking attacks. And boy you'll get pushished for relying on them too much in lategame.

The thing is, this is not a game model, and for everything outside realtime rendering, this topology is 100% fine.
Even for gamedev, you start with highpoly and when it's finished you retopo it to low/mid-poly.
Overworld is a place where you can take a breather from nonstop dogfighting and just enjoy the scenery. So we tried really hard to make it fun to travel through.
