Traffic Stop leads to Arrest of Suspect
in Possession of 60lbs of Methamphetamine.
K9 Rye is the departments newest K9, and was field certified in narcotic detection in April 2018. This is Rye’s first narcotics detection since being field certified.
Traffic lanes shut down both East and Westbound on N. Garvey Av., Just east of Fairway Ln to Hillhaven Dr. A Semi truck with a full load of Modelo Beer overturned blocking the roadway until further notice. CHP is on scene and handling the investigation. ^^DS
This weekend two of our officers were able to help lead a birthday car parade in between calls for service. Due to social distancing, Maegan’s 13th birthday party was cancelled, but the family still wanted to surprise her & we were happy we could be part of it. 🥳🎉🎂
Last night our officers located a suspicious vehicle parked on side of the street, unoccupied. The vehicle had some collision damage and the key was still left in the ignition, however no one was located in the area. The vehicle was secured and the investigation continues ...

On 8-14-19 at approx 9:14 PM, officers responded to a collision where the pictured driver crashed into a parked vehicle, a pole, & into an unoccupied residence. The driver was under the influence. The passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries.
This morning at 0030 hrs WCPD was advised of a herd of animals led by a donkey walking the streets near Francisquito/Valinda, WCovina. The animals were located and safely corralled. The animals had escaped from a City of Valinda residence. Owner was located & took them home.

Officers noticed a broken down vehicle in the middle of the roadway. The driver stated his vehicle broke down on his way to the bank and was unable to push it himself. The officers assisted the gentleman and pushed his vehicle safely out of the roadway. He was extremely grateful!

Congratulations to Officer Anthony Huacuja, who received his 4th 10851 award. To those that don’t know, 10851 means stolen vehicle, and in order for an officer to receive this award they must have recovered 12 stolen vehicles in a 12 month period; 3 of those resulting in arrests.
West Covina Police Officers are attempting to catch a burglary suspect in the residential area of West Covina High School and Cameron Elementary School. Both schools have been locked down as a precaution. There is no current threat to students at either school.
They have completed their ride and reached the Police Officers Memorial in Washington DC. They met with the family and Pomona Police Personnel of Pomona Officer Gregory Casillas to honor the life of their fallen hero. None of the fallen will ever be forgotten!!!

On August 10, 2019, at approx 6:36 PM, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. They continued their investigation & discovered the driver had an outstanding warrant. The officers also located a loaded 380 handgun and baggies of heroin in the veh. The driver was arrested.
Congratulations to our newest officers. Officers Rickey Hawkins II, Brian Cervantes & Christopher Hernandez were all sworn in this morning. Their families were able to watch from their homes via a live stream. Chief Bell made sure everyone was wearing masks & 6 feet apart 👏
Our officers went to visit little Maya & surprise her with gifts. She’s currently battling Leukemia & they wanted to make sure she smiled. She's a tough, incredible girl. We’re happy she enjoyed the surprise & gifts! Thank you to her mom for capturing this moment and sharing 💙

On 7/30/19 at approx. 8:37 PM, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for Vehicle Code Violations. During an investigation, approx. half a pound of methamphetamine, several grams of heroin & cocaine, cash, & a scale was located in the vehicle. The driver was arrested.
Before the day comes to an end, we would like to officially congratulate another officer on his retirement. Thank you Officer Meyers for your dedication and service to Law Enforcement! We wish you the absolute best! 🙏🏻
We honor and remember the life of Deputy Juan “Abel” Escalante EOW 8/2/08. Celeste Owens, a records clerk for WCPD, and married to Deputy Escalante at the time of his death was surrounded by WCPD personnel and family supporting her at his grave site today.
