Every single day on here, somebody goes viral for a “where are all the original horror movies? nobody is making any!” tweet.

It’s impossible to see every horror movie that’s ever been made. Making people feel bad about themselves for not knowing every movie you know or not being into ExTrEmE CiNeMa sucks. Let people enjoy horror and discover horror. Don’t try to keep them out of the cool kids’ club.
Mike Flanagan makes the most emotionally devastating horror I’ve ever seen, and
@midnightmass
keeps that tradition alive. This might be his most satisfying miniseries yet. I’m working on my review now, and I can’t wait until everyone sees it on September 24.
I told someone about my idea for a horror movie and, to my utter dismay, she thought it sounded cool and was very encouraging. Now I am very unhappy that I have to learn how to write a script.
This is disgusting. Abuse survivors are watching the ghoulish way you’re engaging with this trial and taking note. And fearing for the future, based on the precedent it sets.
Every time I’ve seen y’all share this picture, I assumed it was Tim Heidecker doing a Pinhead skit. I finally looked it up and discovered that I was very, very wrong.
Everybody talks about Toni Collette’s dinner table monologue in HEREDITARY, but I rarely hear people mention her feral keening after Charlie dies, as she rocks on the floor and begs to die too. It’s so raw and visceral that you feel like you’re watching something you shouldn’t.
LISA FRANKENSTEIN is an absolute delight. Funny, sweet, and tailor-made for neon-loving goth misfits who enjoy a good G. W. Pabst joke AND a makeover montage. I’ll have a full review up soon, but please go see it. No matter who you watch it with, it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day!
One of my biggest obsessions this year. THE EMPTY MAN is fascinating, and it absolutely deserved better than the bewildered shrug the studio gave it. I highly recommend you check this one out for Halloween!
THE EMPTY MAN (2020)
"A curse movie with a cursed release. Sat on a shelf for years & dumped into theaters during the pandemic. A 137 min horrific story of cults, ancient evils & how perception loses meaning. A modern cult classic in need of an audience." -

Announcement: John Waters is a certified member of the HOUSE OF WAX hive. He asked about my “See Paris Die” shirt and said, “That’s an obscure one, but a good one.” Here I am showing him my shirt.
I started my horror writing website in 2017 as a form of escape from a difficult marriage.
Four years ago today, as a divorced woman starting her life over again, I published my first article outside of my site. Happy anniversary to my writing career. 🎉
A reminder that BLACULA and SCREAM BLACULA SCREAM both arrive on
@Shudder
on October 1. I finally saw both for the first time earlier this year and absolutely loved them. They’re going to be annual Halloween traditions for me from here on out.
He LOVED it. Watching ORPHAN with someone who knows nothing about it is an ELITE experience. 10/10, highly recommend.
He’s excited for ORPHAN: FIRST KILL. 👀
Back when I was still married to someone who hated horror, I took a week off work just before Halloween and did a 50-movie horror marathon. (As I recall, my then-husband was on a work trip, so I had the house to myself.) It was an oasis in the desert and I think about it often.
Hi! I’m Jessica. I’m a writer, editor, podcaster, and cosplayer. I’m passionate about horror, but I love writing and talking about all genres.

This isn’t okay. I don’t make fun of Black women or people with alopecia, and I don’t want to be awarded by people who do. I was flattered to be recognized for my cosplay, but I have to decline my nomination. I sincerely thank everyone who voted for me.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but JSTOR gives you 100 free articles a month if you don’t have an academic or institutional log-in. I’m catching up on some film theory right now and thought I’d do a little PSA.
Though I must say…Hamish Linklater (and everyone else involved with MIDNIGHT MASS) deserves the world, and I’m disappointed to see that entire series snubbed. Linklater’s performance is an all-fucking-timer and you cannot convince me otherwise.
Like clockwork, I am bleeding followers as soon as I post cosplay pictures. I’m sorry, y’all. I love doing cosplay and I’m really proud of how much I’ve improved so far. I thought these pictures were pretty good?
I’m going to be more vocal about the things I want to do. If I don’t yell about them, who will?
I want create special features for your horror releases. Essays, commentaries, whatever you need.
I want to be in a horror documentary.
I want to be in a slasher movie.
I love Mia Goth, truly, but when I finally saw The Monologue after everyone had hyped it up so much, I was underwhelmed. Rebecca Hall in RESURRECTION, on the other hand, blew me away.
Watching this happen in real time is sickening. HBO Max has great original shows and movies AND the best collection of classic movies outside of the Criterion Channel. Their selection is fantastic. Gutting one of the best streamers in the game is such a terrible decision.
Kristen Stewart + aquatic horror = yes, please. I wish I had gone to see this in the theatre before everything shut down, but better late than never.

Dan Stevens and Sam Neill have the same eyes. They have the same slyness, mischief, and fluid openness in their faces.

I’m ashamed & embarrassed to post this, but I’ve been laid off from my day job & I need help. If you have any leads on writing jobs, or if you can spare a dollar to help keep me afloat with bills & medicine while I job hunt, I would be eternally grateful.
Brief life update: I watched KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE for the first time last night and absolutely loved it. My streak of buying the t-shirt before seeing the movie and then being vindicated by my good taste remains unbroken. 🤡
If you ever — EVER — want a horror recommendation, I will do my best to help you out, but if you’re telling me there’s no new horror? No original horror? You’re not putting in the work, baby. You don’t have to look hard, but you do have to look.
Not to overshare, but after years of trying to figure out why I was such a “failure” at housekeeping and so overwhelmed all the time, I asked my then-spouse if he thought I could have ADHD. He said, “Yeah, I’ve thought that for years.”
…
Then why did you yell at me so much?
I've been ranting to friends about this for a while but I thought it bears repeating. What better way to begin ADHD Awareness month than to ask you all to consider this?
She has a date. Whether it goes well or not, I look cute and I’m probably going to get something else at Spirit Halloween afterward, so it’s a win-win.
TW: suicide
It’s probably obvious from my Twitter feed & my writing that I am Not Well™️, but what I usually don’t talk about is my daily battle w/ thoughts of suicide. I have no plans to start talking about this more often, but I’m struggling & just wanted to share. I’m safe.

Dream Warriors…come out to play-ee-ay!!
(Something came up right after I finished getting my makeup and costume on, so I had to rush a bit on the photos…I hope you still enjoy!)
I don’t know how you can love movies or TV and not love writers. I don’t know how you can look at how writers are treated by companies raking in cash thanks to *their* hard work and talent and not think they deserve better.
I’m going to be extra annoying and thread all my Elvira* photos from last night in case you missed any during my frenzied tweeting.
*award-winning!

I don’t know what needs to be done — hire transcriptionists from the area who know the accent, hire transcriptionists for each language, etc. — but I need captions to stop relying on “speaks indistinctly” or “speaks foreign language.” That is simply not good enough. (1/6)
I’m pretty excited that I get to announce this, since the DVD comes out next week. I contributed a video essay to the
@RevealerMovie
release. 🎉 (Sorry that the photo is a bit blurry.)
Our friends at Paper Street Pictures have hooked us up with two REVEALER prize packs to give away, which includes a DVD or iTunes code and the original comic.
REVEALER is on DVD, Digital & VOD on Nov 15.
Enter now:
One like = two movies I love: one horror and one non-horror. They might be interesting double feature pairings, or they might just be the first two movies to pop into my head.
I’ll do this on my lunch break and after work. Hopefully y’all will keep me busy.
