East Basin Drive looking good. This is so much better than using the sidewalk. The sidewalk was crowded, it was unnecessarily winding, and it was made of slippery aggregate.

The 8th Street NE semi-PBL. This closes a gap in the MBT. Honestly, I never thought this would happen. I thought that enough chances had come and gone that it was clear DDOT wasn’t interested. So I’m pleasantly surprised and glad to be wrong.

Changes in my life will now have my home and work too far apart for me to bike commute, so today was my last bike commute - maybe forever. It was a nice day for it and I saw a bald eagle on my ride. But it’s sad to end it after 20+ years. I’ll miss it.

I finally rode the entire length of the 9th street PBL that was constructed in the last year. It’s great. I love the spots where the streeteries were retained on the curb side of the PBL. A victory for people-friendly streets.

Matt branch Trail Fort Totten section is open. Not all work is done with the staircase to the metro station or the sidewalk at street level, but the barrels have been moved out of the way and people are using the trail.

The Navy is making a Master Plan to redevelop the SE Corner of the Navy Yard - which is adjacent to some of the Promenade (a part of the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail). It proposes a mixes of uses, including retail, residential, hospitality, cultural, and open spaces.

Plastic straws are used for minutes yet take nearly 100 yrs to degrade. They pose a serious hazard to oceanic aquatic life and local volunteers have found thousands of single-use plastic straws in our own @anacostiaws & @LoveRockCreek . If you don't need it, please don't use it.

Most Americans live in cities, and, according to this Washington Post ranking, many of us live in places "deficient in nature." Density doesn't necessarily predict limited nature access - e.g. NYC. Los Angeles, we can do so much better. What if we lined our highways with trees?
