Hi! I'm Wince! But if that doesn't sound like a name to you, I guess Winston works? (Winston isn't my name either) IDK I make stuff I guess. I also like stuff.
A lot of people have been talking about how Gretel's design in Hamster and Gretel feels uncanny, soulless, and emotionless. I tried to find the root cause as to why her design felt that way... And then I realized...
She just needed eyebrows!
@rottendevilman
People wonder how simmilar a genderbent character would be to the original, when in reality, it depends on the character and how susceptible they'd be to gender roles. I like the idea that some characters would be wildly different while others would be near identical
@AwestruckVox
I was literally gonna say "wow this kid is gonna be so shocked when he sees the lego part of the movie" BUT HE ANIMATED THAT PART HIMSELF!?
@Citrusflower25
The funny one about this example is that the writer actually incorporated the fact his design was originally female into his backstory (he was raised as a girl until he realized that wasn't right for him and so he told his parents he's a guy and they said ok)
@Schaffrillas
I really wish the animation had thicker line art with the characters (the backgrounds are fine) Simmilar to far from the tree and paperman because it's really hard to see the lines from afar (plus I wish the shading was stylized like paperman too)
Eyebrows are one of the most important parts of forming expressions! Even the smallest change in them can cause a drastic difference! Because Gretel lacks eyebrows altogether, she is missing a key component of visually displaying emotions, thus she feels soulless.
@honeydewopal
I think what's really sad about Adult Swim cancelling this for being too dark is that they're perfectly fine with topics of SA when it's played for laughs(such as Ep 2 of moral orel), but as soon as its taken with the severity it deserves, suddenly its "too dark"
I do wanna mention that the soullessness that comes from a lack of eyebrows can be used effectively. Both ferb and perry lack eyebrows as doing so gives off this vacant, uncanny expression, which perfectly fits their characters.
@MrSnappyeagle
I get it when the eye is partially covered, but WHY would you draw the eye when it's COMPLETELY COVERED BY HAIR!!!! This doesn't make things more readable it's just obnoxious imo
@cozynosy_
@TheJakeneutron
I did NOT expect him to do that and I'm honestly really happy he did. I think Mat is learning from his previous blunders and I'm happy he's using his power responsibly. I'm just happy in general that fans are respecting Clown's boundaries for the most part
In fact, giving these characters eyebrows would actually make these designs feel uncanny as perry and ferb are not meant to be this expressive (Though phineas looks fine.) The difference between them and Gretel is that Gretel is SUPPOSED to be expressive while they aren't.
@DisneyAPromos
The setting looks cool but I really wish it kept with the style from the concept art. IDK, the new style kind of looks Disney Jr-esque, so unless that's what they're intentionally going for, I prefer the original
@Y0uKn0wTheName
Doesn't this guy know that Shrek has a vunerable side too and straight up *cries* in the 4th movie?
If shrek saw Puss in a panic attack, he may not say much, but he'd be there for him, especially if he knows its due to Puss being afraid of his own mortality
@notsweetdandy
Kinger: "Sorry pal, but can we make amends?"
Pomni: "Shut up, Kinger, I'm gonna kill you!"
Jax: "Why can't we just talk it out?"
Pomni: "Not this time, Jax..."
Caine: "Pomni, oh Pomni, where have you been?"
Pomni: "Too late Caine, I'm stabbing your back!"

So I noticed that I'm seeing a ton of AU stuff for Starlo (it's all cool BTW) which made me feel that he gained his Sans-like status
This image is VERY out of character for some weird reason
I love how Chika *(or
#Chika
?) is trending for literally no reason. It's just because a bunch of people are saying the word "Chika" all around the same time. Anyway, Kaguya Sama is a great anime and Chika Fujiwara is a great character
@mask_bastard
You do realize the reason why those 30's animated shorts look so good is that they are theatrical productions with theatrical budgets, while the animation nowadays is TV animation with TV budgets.
Here's Looney Tunes in Theaters (30's) and Here's Looney Tunes on TV (60's)
@itsashotgunbaby
I genuinely thought it was a Your Favorite Martian song for the longest time until I figure out the song's title and listened to it myself. I was confused why the song/album cover had real people instead of flash-animated cartoon characters
//atsv spoilers (and into the spiderverse spoilers)
So after watching the spiderverse movie, a friend of mine mentioned how Miguel is basically what would happen if Kingpin won, which is kind of crazy to think about
@ryanqnorth
When I first realized this is supposed to have a double meaning, I first thought "I didn't know Hobie Brown hated Arctic Monkeys and Paul McCartney"
@GENCZILLA
On one hand, I agree, but on the other hand, the meaning of the "shallow" art is the joy it brings to the artist and its viewers. So while I wish people made more art with substance, I believe shallow art should still exist as it still brings people joy
Ok, so I just read through the entire graphic novel of Nimona, and I want to give some (spoiler free) pieces of info about it since I feel there's a lot of misconceptions on what the upcoming movie is gonna be like 🧵
@horrifichymns
I'm not sure if this would count as it's on Adult Swim but it's also TV-PG and Gendy said the whole family can enjoy so IDK
It does air on CN right before adult swim happens so I guess it's on the same level as Regular Show (which I definitely think counts as for teens)
@rottendevilman
In that sense, a genderbend could be a character study.
As for non binary characters, they'd still be non-binary, but they'd have the opposite of that non-binary gender (agender to all-gender, genderfluid to idk bigender?)
@Alonestarfish
@SuperVallain
This isn't the only time this team has done it. Phineas, Ferb, and Perry(in his normal form) lack eyebrows too, but I feel the expressionlessness of that lack of eyebrows benefitted ferb and perry at least, but it fails with Gretel as she's supposed to be expressive.
"Look, Chris... We *want* to be your friend, we *want* to like you... but... All this torture and murder you're doing... it... it's kind of making that hard."
"... Ugh, I'm sorry, Chris... I- I was being a bit harsh there"
"No, no, it's Ok, Duncan. *I'm* sorry..."
"...Thank you."
#RAINCODE
I want to give a massive update that this speculation of mine is now confirmed! Halara is non binary and uses they/them pronouns according to the official site
#RAINCODE
Ever since I saw Halara nightmare, I wondered what gender they were and even thought that they might be non binary. However, given their description being the only one to lack pronouns to an awkward degree, I genuinely think this character may actually be non binary
@AruAyaAl
@rottendevilman
Yeah, depending on what type of character they are. For instance, I could imagine a sporty guy being a sporty tomboy, but, say a rich & strict dad who prides on machismo would probably be a rich & strict, overly feminine mom. Depends on each individual character
@GAVITRAXart
@TheRealNeoThe
Silhouettes are still an important art tip, even when you don't recognize the character, as seen here. A good silhouette can make a character's actions loud and clear. Both silhouettes are doing the exact same thing, but only one makes that abundantly obvious due to the posing.
@time_pizzerNG
This reminds me of how 4kidz did the same with Pokemon and "Gotta catch em all" and its theme song. It's crazy to think about how much influence 4kidz caused in so many pieces of media
@DoobusGoobus
Asha LITERALLY talks about how if he didn't grant other's wishes, he should give them back. What the king's doing is using other people's hopes and dreams as fuel for power. He's LITERALLY using them as a source of power while giving the people false hope.
@CHlNESEOTD
I just wanna say that her being based on a qilin is probably incorrect because qilin already exist in MLP (qilin are called kirin in japanese. Japanese versions of kirin tend to have 1 horn while in china they tend to have 2)
@Cyberlord1109
It could've been cool if her color was yellow BECAUSE she was trying/tried to imitate Po, kind of like how Tai Lung's eyes are yellow (while his main color is blue) because he sees himself as the rightful dragon warrior when in reality he isn't
@SketchesbyBoze
I love how Alice in Wonderland discussions went from "The author was on drugs" to "The author was just being imaginative" to "The author thought he was just being imaginative when in reality he was on drugs/being poisoned without realizing it"
@SplinkedUp
@CursedMario
Yeah he literally talked about how he was trying to be overly angry for comedic effect, kind of like the angry video game nerd. Even back then, there were videos where he was calm and chill. I feel bad that he got harassed over this but I'm happy he's having a good life now.
If there's one good thing to come from Velma, it's that it renewed public interest in Scooby Doo again and has caused people to check out Mystery Incorporated! (As well as an indie project of the same name)
@mippness
While I am unable to recognize any characters as I do not know them, they all give me a unique feeling, which I like! Note that silhouettes are supposed to communicate as no one can recognize a character they do not know of
@goofyaahhhhhh
As someone who was once obsessed with these creatures, you're correct! (Chinese Qilin tend to have 2 horns like antlers while Japanese Kirin tend to have 1) Another fun fact is that, when giraffes were imported over there, many people thought they were kirins.
@SansLps
THE WORST PART IS THAT THE FIRST INSTANCE OF THE PONIES TRYING TO BE INCLUSIVE WAS APPLEJACK SAYING EVERYONE. THERE WAS NOCREATURE STOPPING THEM FROM JUST USING EVERYONE
@honeydewopal
I recently watched a video about this episode, and the comments were filled with victims/survivors talking about how this episode resonated with them and made them feel seen.
One even stated how it's refreshing to have the trauma be taken seriously in a sea of jokes about it
SPOILERS FOR SCARLET AND VIOLET (
#svleaks
)
I just realized that Paradox pokemon are just the Pokemon version of Legendary Yokai (specifically from the 1st game so ignore poofessor, spoilerina, and splurpent)
@hoshiumisexy
With this and people saying writers deserve being underpaid because their writing isn't good, I feel society as a whole is too entitled to good art. As someone who's written, drawn, and made music, all of these things are tough to do, so don't be surprised when it's not perfect
@AsterShock
I thought Tinkaton was going to be Gen 9's Pseudo Legendary when the pokedex was leaked, and I'm kind of sad it isn't.
That said, I believe all pseudo legendaries were meant to be dragon-like and metagross was never intended to be a pseudo it just so happened to have 600BST

(To the editors, not Shulz) Imagine having so much hatred in your heart that you can't stand the idea of a black kid sitting alongside all his friends and that he must stay on the other side all because of his race.
@DynamoSuperX
Honestly the way they showed of Bowser's love for peach was VERY hilarious and VERY Jack Black!
I am shocked that the movie was simultanously able to make bowser so silly AND so threatening at the same time
@Diregentleman
as someone who dropped fire force, I think the worst part about that scene is that I'm pretty sure it's the *only* time where Tamaki (the woman being skimpy) chose to be sexual. Every other time was against her will.
@Crimson_Mayhem_
This was the first tweet that made me discover what happened to Schaffrillas and his friends. I can't get over the fact that something as tragic as this happened to the 3 of them, and so suddenly, too. I miss chris and patrick so damn much, and I hope to god that James is alive.
