It was mentioned earlier that the cultivated man can mix freely at all levels of society (the referent was 19thC). This was always a hallmark of aristocrats. Only the insecure bourgeois, the stuffy climber, is constantly preoccupied with class, status and hierarchy

Beethoven's practice of daily improvisation is rarely if ever cited as one of the main reasons for the greatness of his compositions. As Hindemith noted, masterpieces arise from a "hotbed of musical activity", not from random inspiration or from elaborate theories of composition

There's an arrogance often seen in middle-class people, midwits, and fathers: that secretly they know better; their "common sense", cut-the-bull "insight" trumps the nuance and perspective of years of honest, deep, and critical study. Often they're thinking of lines from a movie

Bach's mastery of every element of music (rhythm, melody, counterpoint, harmony, tonality) gives his shorter works such as the preludes and fugues of WTC a quality of medias res: you are immediately plunged into a complete world of identity and expression; fully realized, unique.
