Yet another example of the ways in which Warren looks at problems in terms of *systems*, and always with an eye to helping the most vulnerable. She pays attention to the needs of the Latinx community. There's a reason Julián endorsed her.

This article about the life and passing of doctoral student Gabe Trujillo breaks my heart. What a loss for his family, friends, and the world. California Ph.D. student's research trip to Mexico ends in violent death: "He was in the wrong place" - CBS News
If Bernie is serious about his “Not Me, Us” rhetoric, he could consider securing the nomination for a progressive by throwing his weight behind the first female president of the United States, a longtime ally who improves on his own policies.

It can take longer for communities of color to trust new candidates, but Warren worked tirelessly to *earn* that trust. It's wild to see media forgetting the historic campaign of

Don't forget the start of this race: every candidate on that stage looked to Warren for what to do! She's the natural leader of the group. And now while a bunch of vane old men fumble the moment, Warren is leading the country in a crisis

As Warren gains, I'm seeing her mistaken indigenous claims and Republican talking points about them return in my social media feeds. I do want to remind everyone that she is learning from her mistakes, has apologized for the DNA test debacle, and spoken about those lessons.
Can we not just give the job to the best candidate? It's so obvious that person is Warren. She simply understands the broken parts of the American experiment so much better than anyone else running.

At the start of last summer, I posted that I needed to finish drafting my book manuscript in 2021. Well, I'm not done. Not yet. I have about 1.5 chapters and conclusion to go. Please hold me accountable twitter world! I wish a great 2022 to all those mired in writing projects!
@JulianCastro
Warren is by far the biggest threat to the established negative power structures, and they know that. From Wall Street to Facebook, they know. Don't let them stop her.
#Warren2020
@JulianCastro
Warren integrates concerns for race, gender, orientation and ability into every one of her plans. We cannot dismiss the need to fight racism and sexism as "identity politics" and a "distraction" as Sanders has done. He should follow her lead.

The dedication of Don America Paredes’s With His Pistol in His Hand remains stunning after all these years. This page had fallen out of my book two weeks ago and I found it on the classroom podium on Thursday. So poetic and hints of things truly horrible.
"If you are pro-Warren at heart, but still second guessing, I call on you to proudly get into this grass-roots fight with me. Passionate and positive action is the only response that can break the cycle."

@JulianCastro
If what you want are progressive policies that get done + leave no one behind, Warren's the one. I worry Sanders will revert to pandering for the "white working class" vote when it suits him, as he's done in the past. We're not a priority in his theory of change
#Warren2020
Warren is my candidate. She and her message is progressive and she speaks from the heart. Bernie is good too. Still, I remember his absence of outreach to Latinos in 2016 and can't forget his disavowal of so-called identity politics after that election.

I just watched one of my own zoom lectures and I have a bunch of questions: Is that what I sound like? Is that what I look like? Do I always move like that? Is that me?
ICU beds in New Mexico are full. Our healthcare system is overwhelmed. Many people can’t get life-saving care including folks who are suffering non-COVID-related health disasters. Please do all you can to stop the spread of this virus! It is endangering all of us!
This past year has been one of the hardest in my life and the same for those I love. I bet many of you had a year like that too! I hope 🙏 things will break ALL our way in 2022. Let’s kickstart a good future. I wish you all a happy new year! 🎉☀️😅
Check out Summer Brennan’s new op ed demonstrating the silliness of recent efforts to embarrass Warren! Opinion: Scandal-ridden Elizabeth Warren has really gone and done it now
I'm looking for articles or books about Afromestizaje in New Mexico. Are there any texts you great folks can direct me to? I know important work is coming! Still, I'm short on already published materials. In particular, I might not know of creative texts.
I often won't watch the final episode of a series that I love. I don't want the show to end and if I don't see the conclusion, it isn't over at least for me. Am I the only one who does this?

People will ask you to do so many things. We all have to learn to say "no" even though there is so much others want us to do and we want to do ourselves.
I just taught Americo Paredes's With His Pistol in his Hand. It is still good! Here at the University of New Mexico, it is great to teach him in relation to his fellow UT Chicanx Studies precursor at UT George I. Sanchez. Two fraught be important figures!
I tried to show an actual video on my classroom's vcr today. Of course, the dusty old machine proceeded to eat it and then refuse to eject it. I wonder if the overhead projector works?
I don’t want to leave this former bird place, but it is getting harder to stay. I had found it to be a great place to keep up on what is happening in my fields and make new friends. What do you plan to do?

I keep tying "dessert" in the place of "desert." I even did this in the title of the current chapter. I did so months ago and I did not notice. It really changes the meaning. It REALLY changes the meaning.
When I keep up on my emails, I fall behind on everything else. If I keep up with everything else my unanswered emails become a vast scary unknown. What should I do?
I have not received a work email in over an hour. I had to refresh my window to see if the internet is working? No emails piling up. What do I do? I'm so confused.
My students and I visited the Museum of International Folk Art on Friday. Curator Carrie Hertz gave us a great presentation and showed us the behind the scenes.

I’m rearranging my books. I like to to think my books are debating, enthusiastically agreeing, throwing punches, giving each other high fives, and working thru the finer points. That is why I have to be careful about where I place each one on the shelf.
I've been relearning how the work of writing is rewarding, "I want you to spend more time with that strange and unknown place where words come from, when we’re not yet trying to 'be good' or 'do it right" SB.

From Warren’s mouth: "'DNA & family history has nothing to do with tribal affiliation or citizenship, which is determined only — only — by Tribal Nations' and noted she doesn’t list herself as Native American in the Senate.
Fredric Jameson’s The Political Unconscious might be the single book that shaped me the most as an academic. His writing is so confounding and powerful. He teaches me something new each time I struggle to make sense of his work. So good! R.I.P. Jameson.
People out there in the world believe that my job is to teach. Well, we're actually rewarded for scholarship but my real job is answering emails.

I can't stop fiddling with this one paragraph. Maybe I should add a comma there? I think this sentence is too long. I should explain this one thing more in an endnote. I've added to many endnotes. No, I will save this for later in the essay. What was I saying?
Wow. I stepped away from writing an essay and returned to find circuitous and comma-ridden sentences. I swear they weren’t like this two weeks ago! I wonder who did this to my writing? :)
Today in my Breaking Bad class, we discussed the Western genre and critiques of justice and progress. The students were so ENGAGED in small group discussion that I had trouble bringing them back together as a class. I gotta figure how to write about BB and a place to publish!
I ask my undergrad intro students to write about their own subcultures. I always learn that folks are doing a lot of amazing cool things that I didn't know existed!

Writing a book is, for me, like creating a good album. I need a hook to get into the groove for each chapter. Those chapters are crafted to stand alone and feel complete. Then I arrange, cull, and add chapters so that they collectively tell a story that is more than its parts.
New Mexico Chicanx Studies is great! I attended a great lecture/performance by Max Baca and Josh Baca of the Los Texmaniacs at noon and a talk by fiction writer and Chicanx Studies Prof Alejandro Morales in the afternoon.

So I just learned cilantro tastes like soap to a lot of people because of a genetic predisposition. This was a teaching moment for me. I wouldn't want to add soap to my food either! Also, apologies to those that are allergic!
