A full service, nationally accredited police department serving the public safety and security needs of Virginia Tech and the New River Valley since 1945.
Three years ago this young Hokie Michael Senoyuit IV collapsed while working at West End. No pulse, not breathing. VTPD Sgt. Kendrah Cline, pictured with Michael, responded, administered CPR, brought him back. Today, he received his engineering degree.
It is w/heavy & sad hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved K9 Bax. He was in failing health & recently retired as a result. Our gratitude 2 Bax's partner Officer Jaret Reece & family for making Bax a family member & taking care of him. Rest in Peace Bax job well done.

It’s hard to find the right words following the sudden death of our brother, Officer Geof Allen. Our thoughts & prayers are with Geof’s family and loved ones at this time. A dedicated officer who brought light to many in our community, Geof will be missed. Rest easy, Geof.
Did y'all absolutely love how campus looked during this graduation weekend? The beautiful lawns, the beautiful flowers, and all else? If so, we all can thank VT's most excellent ground's keepers in the VT Facilities Department. They are phenomenal. They make VT look great.
We showed up at Lane Stadium this morning to do some filming. We won't say what for! Found this little guy wet and trapped in a trash can. We returned him to the wild! Run free, little man!
15 years.
Every day, we live for our 32 community members tragically taken from us too soon. Today, we remember and honor them and their loved ones. We also honor all of the brave first responders who answered the call on 4/16/07. Always Remember.🧡
On this day, we celebrate the life, service and sacrifice of a community servant. We have missed our brother, Officer Deriek Crouse, since that fateful day 10 years ago. We live each day for 152. Rest in Peace, brother. We've got it from here.
Earlier this week VTPD Chief Babb was asked by UVA police if the VTPD might send some officers to help at today's football game in Charlottesville. Of course he said yes. It's who we all are, it's what we all do. No matter the patch on the shoulder we're all there for eachother.

Coach Crosby leads the Strength & Conditioning program and invited VTPD officers to join his workout programs during the pandemic. Crosby’s holistic leadership helped our officers stay fit, get strong, and develop routines to lead healthy lifestyles.
Thanks Coach!
There he was today, on the sidelines. As always. VTPD Captain Vince Houston. Ever faithful. Ever vigilant. 2019 marks 30 years on the Hokie sidelines for Vince. Tradition. Ut Prosim.

We neglected to mention that Bax, like his predecessor Boris, will become a member of his VTPD partner's family upon his retirement. Like Boris and all hard working law enforcement K9s across this country, Bax has earned it! (Isn't he a handsome boy!!)
Today, we are humbled to be among the thousands of local, state, & federal law enforcement officers and citizens who honored two fallen heroes, Bridgewater College Campus Police Officer John Painter and Campus Safety Officer J.J. Jefferson.
Rest in Peace, brothers 💙

The end of an era! Dispatcher Helen Moore retired today! "Miss Helen" saw 30 plus years behind the mic, the "voice in the dark" keeping us safe. Thank you, Miss Helen, job very well done, indeed!
Our current narcotics K9 Bax is preparing 4 retirement. We introduced who we hope will be his replacement, Zuka, today 4 the first time. Zuka is still training but so far so good. Both Bax and Zuka are partnered w/Officer Jaret Reece. We'll keep y'all posted on Zuka's progress!

While today's result was not what was expected, let's give Hokie respect to ODU. They played an excellent game and should be proud of their accomplishment. They earned my respect. Let's get up, dust ourselves off and take it to Duke next week. We're down, not out.
While it would have been great 2 see Hokies & Pirates @ Lane R prayers R w/all dealing w/Flo; fire, rescue, law enforcement. Don't forget doctors, nurses & other health care pros working. We salute the unsung heroes from emergency management. Flo, U weren't welcome. Beat it.

Congratulations to Officer John Tarter, who is now Corporal John Tarter! A plethora of folks shared his special day including a number of valued colleagues from Housing and Residence Life. Great work, Corporal Tarter!
Either our Residence Life Resource Officers r moving from the old office to their new one at New Residence Hall East or their practicing their killer moving skills for move-in next month. Or their just being whacky because, well, sometimes they just act whacky. We don't ask why.
Move-in, version 2019, is in the books! Yes, there were challenges. Yes, the traffic on Wednesday was horrendous. But, as always, Hokie Nation took it all in stride and said, "Not today! Today, we're all Hokies"!
We're looking forward to a GREAT year! How 'bout you?
We had a great visit w/ Brooklyn today who is interested in becoming a police officer & wanted to know more about women in law enforcement. She met w/ Sergeants Kendrah Cline & Susie Ratcliffe & Officer Alex Gale who were happy to share their experiences. Come back soon Brooklyn!
We had a fantastic visit today from some extraordinary VT student-athletes, the Virginia Tech Women's Basketball Team. Pictured here with Chief Foust, this extraordinary team will be the team to beat this year in the ACC. Great things await this team!
