In 2021-22, Yann Sommer was superior to David de Gea in nearly every way except for shot stopping. And even there, he came pretty close to de Gea's level while being infinitely better at claiming crosses, sweeping, and distributing. In a meritocracy, he'd start ahead of De Gea.
