The LA "sun shade bus shelter" discourse is driving me nuts. - No the DoT cannot buy a tent off of Amazon and set it up - No they cannot set up a fully enclosed structure on a 7ft wide sidewalk - Yes decent shelters exist off the shelf but cost $2000-8000

If your pedestrian/bike ramp for bridge would be completely unacceptable for cars (if scaled up) then its probably not acceptable for bikes or wheel chairs either. Proposing 4 level loop on a public road would get an engineer laughed out of the room.

Yeah no, this is the right number of people to dig up a road in NYC. 2-3 flaggers, sight safety engineer, head engineer, 2 heavy equipment operators, and the people who must hand dig the hole. Hand digging is necessary because the the utilities are a 150y/o tangle of tubes/pipes

Clearly less traffic would create cleaner air, but as an example of how it would create safer streets, take a look at Jersey Ave, one of the main shunpiking streets. Cut through traffic sending thousands of cars down streets while kids are walking to school.

As a software engineer it is quite difficult for me to listen to neolibs spout off about projects and systems being "boondoggles". Every complex system has years of conflicting guidance, rotating staff, and a massive backlog of issues...🧵

Love living by the water, have basically my whole life, but when summer comes around and the whole town smells of diesel fumes every time there is an eastern wind kinda sucks.

Ever wonder why New Jersey, the most dense state in the union, doesn't have a major city? Wonder no more, the first episode in my Boroughitis series is out.

Urbanist influencer twitter is making me "Only In My Back Yard" pilled. No amount of "policy failure" posts are going to make me think it's a good idea to put housing on marginal land next to highways, Intermodal ports, or airports. These aren't the places we want people to live

Averages 33mph before the grade crossing hell which is Camden. Built for only $1.1 billion in the 21st century ($1.73 billion in 2022 funny money). Useful as inter town transit not just commuters. Most people I've talked to love it as well.

We are willing to put up with being treated as sub human in an airport, but some how busses and trains are unfit for people as a form of transit? An NJT coach bus or commuter train is pure luxury compared to an airline experience.

These modern row houses in Philly are real cool, love the architecture. Though it highlights something that happens all too often in Philly, sidewalk parking. Maybe more streets should have sidewalk protectors?

The NJT River Line should be extended up to West Trenton, replacing Route 1 and the Delaware and Raritan Canal should be uncapped. Creating a new linear park and shuttling more passengers closer to the center of Trenton.
